Canned meat / sausages?

I don't have a freezer and therefore can't stock up too much on fresh meat.

 

I'm aware of various canned fish products but are there any canned or preserved beef/pork/chicken products?

 

Thinking of something like corned beef/canned ham etc...

 

Of course there are imported items but they are insanely priced.

Yes, in Tops you can get canned pork from Germany.

 

Look for "Halberstaedter".

 

You could also consider sausages in a glass, again from Germany, which are also sold in Central Food Hall.

Have you checked the price? 4 times then what you would pay in Germany. No thanks.

I used to love the canned meat substitute stuff they gave us in ration packs back in my army days. 30 years ago but I think a can of Spam would do for now, you just need to cook the hell out of it.

That stuff's not cheap either. Plus, that salt contented is too outrageous to ignore.

Is there real meat in spam? Had it 30 years ago. Tasted like slime.

I wouldn't trust Thai canned products. I bought minced chicken from Thailand once, it actually had a bone in it.

 

I'd rather pay the price for a German product. I also think quality wise the Thais are not as fussy with the meat.

My emergency larder spares I would get out of Gourmet Market at EmQuartier, and also get here in Siem now:

 

Real US Spam, which is edible if used as a foundational meat for things like SPAM salad.

Polish canned ham (Got to be Polish) for slicing. Triangle can.

Australian Bully Beef (Ox and Palm).

Whatever Mestenmacher bread was available or its German or Scandanvian equivalent. 

 

One can of each with two packages of bread keep you going for a week. Add a can of Progresso soup per day if you are a chubster or food giant. Lentil Soup adds roughage.

 

Come to think of it, that sounds like my Bug Out Bag in Alaska, substitute Pilot Bread and add 40 rounds of 338 Win Mag.

Not true, WW-II, it was and still is a large staple of the Philippine people, and in Hawaii, there are so many different types and flavors of Spam now.  I do like the Delimondo Brand of corned beef from the Philippines, but it is pretty pricy over here.

We managed to get a few of the Tulip luncheon pork from Tesco... we also have a ton of those CP hotdogs from 7/11 delivery frozen in the freezer

Actually they acquired quite a taste for the stuff. Salt is addicting.

Few eat it straight out of the can. In moderation, it's actually useful.

Back in the old Boy Scout says, It made for a good breakfast meat - keeps better than bacon.

For some people it may not be edible, but you can fry it, spread it, and shape it into animals if you do not want to eat it.....lol.  I actually like it fried with a pineapple slice and lettuce on a Hawaiian roll.
