U.S. topic -- FBAR filing deadline to report 2019?

Featured Replies

"The FBAR is an annual report, due April 15 following the calendar year reported.

You’re allowed an automatic extension to October 15 if you fail to meet the FBAR annual due date of April 15. You don’t need to request an extension to file the FBAR."

The FBAR report is due on April 15 BUT....one receives an automatic extension until October 15.  However, the online process is pretty straight forward.  PM me if you need to talk about the details.....

Weird. I saw some other links saying the automatic extension was July 15 not October 15.

Either you weren't looking at something official or you were looking at a very old and outdated link. Or both.

Thanks for the feedback.

I got it together to file before April 15 but now I have an academic question.

On the form they ask you to write a reason if you're filing late as in after April 15.

Given there is that automatic extension to October 15, what are you supposed to write if you're filing after April 15 and before October 15?

Just leave it blank because it's not really late?

OR

Automatic extension

OR

Actually still give a reason such as --

Used the automatic extension as I needed more time to gather records

Im not sure what the issue is here   this is not about taxes   its about how much and where you have money outside the US  why would you even question can you delay why would you not want to do it right now get it over with    it takes less than 5 min do  online   unless you don't have your ducks in order  documentation that is

Like I said, I did it.

I only wanted to know the actual deadlines.

This isn't really that kind of thread about moralizing about why people do what when.

Just the facts. Just the dates.

Per the FBAR Instructions.  If filing by 15 Oct you are not late...no reason required.
