New Computer Poor Display - How To Make Font Bolder?

Recommended Posts

I purchased a new Lenova computer.  However the display qualities are very poor.  How do I adjust the font to make them appear bolder?  Attached is a sample.  As you can see it is very washed out.

Have you tried enlarging the fonts to make it more legible?

Try Ctrl-plus to enlarge and Ctrl-minus to shrink.

It isn't the size.  I can increase the size however it is washed out.  There is no boldness to the font. Not crisp and clear

You should be able to alter both font and style in the visual settings, please supply model number ? Operating system ?

Is this blurry font limited only to certain applications? - send a screenshot of your desktop to see what your icons look like.

Need to eliminate whether this is a hardware or a font settings issue.

Was just fighting to remember the keyword for this...

Assuming you have Windows (10?).

Has it something to do with "ClearType" setting?

(why it would not be set on your system by default is strange)

Screenshots from my display (sorry just in German).

Without ClearType:

With ClearType:

To reproduce the effect on my display precisely you have to watch the images without zooming by the browser (100%).

first check that the resolution is at maximum

right click on the desktop, display settings, make sure Display Resolution is at maximum

then after you sort it (or if it is already at maximum), search for "cleartype" in settings and set that up

should sort that out.

No it is across all application and internet browsing.  Most noticeable on email  This is a shot of the screen.

The screenshot you posted looks fine. I'm wondering if the Thai System Font you (or the OS) chose is low resolution. I'd try setting it as ENGLISH Only for testing, then look for a better Thai Font to use.

You could also take a look at the Windows 10 help web link about Adjusting Windows Text Size

From the first screenshot, this looked to me like the application falling back on very basic fonts (possibly bitmap fonts*) which could happen if the fonts specified in a webpage were unavailable on your computer.  However, if this site (which uses fonts downloaded from the Internet when you access the content) looks clear, that probably isn't the issue.

My second thought is that there is a mismatch between your monitor's display resolution and that being used by the driver.

* A bitmap font is a font with jagged edges when enlarged (as opposed to a scalable font which, no matter what the size, looks the same). Bitmap fonts use a series of dots to make up each character.
