Five people in the southern province of Ranong are under scrutiny for Covid-19 but prelimimary tests have cleared them, Dr Sathit Timkham, Ranong Public Health Officer, said on April 10.

“All five patients are Ranong locals, comprising three women and two men, one of whom is a Myanmar national,” he said. “They displayed symptoms similar to Covid-19 including fever, coughing and sore throat and have been placed in isolation. Preliminary testing of their fluids found no signs of Covid-19,” he said.

Rayong is the only province among 14 provinces in southern region that still has no confirmed case of Covid-19.

Phuket has the most confirmed cases in the region with 172.

According to the Public Health Ministry, nine provinces that have yet to report a confirmed case are Kamphaeng Phet, Chai Nat, Trat, Nan, Beung Kan, Phichit, Ranong, Sing Buri and Ang Thong.

“Ranong Public Health Office has employed an aggressive PR strategy over the past weeks,” said Sathit. “We have dispatched officials to educate community leaders on how to prevent contracting the virus. This measure coupled with the government’s social distancing policy and curfew order has resulted in fewer numbers of patients under investigation in Ranong.”
