BANGKOK(NNT) - The Prime Minister has commended related agencies and staff on their collaborative efforts to lessen the COVID-19 crisis, confirming that there is no need to extend curfew hours.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Defence has addressed the nation in a televised broadcast, highlighting the government’s efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.

He said the government has been promoting social distancing practices and encouraging companies to allow employees to work from home, as well as activating a village health volunteer network with some 1 million members assigned to check on local households and villagers in quarantine. The volunteer network is considered an important mechanism in Thailand’s robust primary health care system.

The government is working to support medical staff and increase treatment capacity. It has ordered 200,000 more N95 masks for medical staff, which can be disinfected properly under UV-C light and reused four times. 1.5 million surgical masks are being delivered to hospitals across the country daily.

The government has so far imported 187,000 Favipiravir tablets, a medicine found to be effective in treating coronavirus complications, in five batches from China and Japan. The government is targeting the importation of 200,000 more of these tablets, along with preparation of patient beds and other equipment to accommodate patients, both in Bangkok and other provinces.

The Prime Minister has said that inter-provincial travel restrictions and nightly curfew from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. are still in place, with some 6,500 persons found to be violating these regulations by gathering at nighttime despite the prohibition. He has asked the general public to refrain from holding any special events for this year’s Songkran festival, in order to stop the ongoing transmission.

Thailand was very fortunate that the Chinese themselves blocked most of the tour parties due to arrive here.

Absolutely. In more ways than most here thinks.

Containment efforts !! Is that some kind of joke?

He failed to stop the Chinese hoards from entering the country quickly enough, because as is the norm here, making money was before peoples health/ safety

Would you rather be in The UK or the US??

Police in Pattaya still seem more concerned with shaking down scooter helmet violations...watched yesterday as a regular shakedown officer wrote up a ticket for a young thai girl with a child...absolutely disgusting lot them

To all the cynics out there I could buy your points if you could show me pictures or reports on social media or elsewhere  of hospitals overwhelmed with people needing treatment, patients on trollies waiting to die, makeshift graves being dug or mass cremations, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters weeping about the death of a loved one, medics asking for more PPE or ventilators.  Thai folk are very social media savvy and if this was a really serious problem then it would be out there. I'm not sure why it isn't happening here but just be thankful you're not in Europe or the US now because it's mayhem there. Thank God I'm here

That's OK Ms. Yinn. If their opinions were of any import, they would be filing them someplace other than here.

No starting a debate here if right or wrong.

The fact is that there are different nationalities here, with different age levels, some are expats, some tourists, some since many years here, others much lesser.

But many have the same, rather negative approach/experience about Thailand.

Next to  be interesting, it is also significant/relevant.

Yinn is unfortunately the only Thai  who express herself here.

Interesting to know her opinion, but being one it is not at all significant /relevant.

Plainly it will not be over until a vaccine is available. So talk all you want on failures of shortcomings and achievements, but bottom line is nothing will really recover until then. In general I feel ok safe in Thailand and happy to be with my family at this time.

Thank the Chinese government for suppressing the info and then thank the Chinese Lab and government in Wuhan especially if you want to thank something. I don't buy a word of what they say about anything.

Bottom line is it ain't near over yet.

Significant/relevant, OK. Effectual? Rarely if ever.

As I have posted many times, I am not in favor for this man in general. During the pandemic, he has been standing strong, though. It looks like Thailand will get out of this on the good side compared to many other countries. So, this time it should be said when due. Good job!

Is that not the job of traffic police? A couple of months ago you'd have criticized him for NOT writing a ticket!

It's probably because they disclose the correct figures, and do more testing.

I only wear a mask when going into a shop, or travelling on public transport. I suffer from asthma, and to keep a mask on for lengthy periods of time brings on panic attacks. As the province I reside in has not made it compulsory to wear a mask at all times, I am breaking NO rules, the same as many of the Thais in this province not wearing them !

thankyou very much.

Or the dozens of Thais I witnessed in Soi Nern Plab Wan ( Pattaya darkside ) not wearing masks yesterday. Also the ( non essential ) business,s that were still open.

Now thats what I call doing a good job in restricting the Corona Virus spread. - Sarc

It seems many people will criticize Prayut and the Thai government whatever they do.

Obviously they are far away from perfect but looking at the number of (officially) infected and dead people in Thailand it seems they did a pretty good job.

Thailand has not many cases. And even if the real number is probably a lot higher than the official number the number of sick and dead people is not high. Hospitals are not full and temples are not overloaded with corpses.

Look at UK, they USA, Germany, Italy and many other countries and compare them with Thailand. Personally I am happy that I am here and not in one of those so called first world countries.

And also let's not forget the limitations of the government. How would we have reacted if there would have been travel restrictions two months ago? I think that is almost unthinkable because people would not have accepted it. I am pretty sure people only accepted all the restrictions in Thailand after reading and seeing the same restrictions somewhere else - and all the dead people somewhere else. All in all: Good job Khun Prayut!

I would suggest nature did a good job for the area.

Lao, Burma and Cambodia have waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less virus problems than LOS, two of those have no reported deaths....

This virus came at the perfect time. Under the cosh, being censured, drug dealing cabinet member, economy tanking........all forgotten.

We can argue about Prayut and his leadership during this virus BUT this statement by Surelynot is absolutely correct.

By the time this is over and all the 5,000 baht per person aid has been given out over the next  6+ months plus other government handouts, Thanathorn and the FFP will be just a memory. Could they have done any better? I doubt it.

The junta have cemented themselves here for a long future now. No matter how bad the future is, the people will remember [and be reminded of] the success of low rate of infections and deaths at this time.

Maybe, maybe it's also the culture with not shaking hands.

I don't know the actual numbers but I am pretty sure there are also a lot less foreigners in Lao, Burma and Cambodia who cold have transmitted the virus.

Can I ask if measures are being taken in IDC to prevent the spread of Coronavirus & how this is being done. Also for those being deported surely immediate deportation if flights are available rather than a life threatening.stay in IDC where Coronavirus must be rife.

And how many autopsies have been made for all of dead People in Europe and USA? I understand is cannot be made while Pandemic and for example the German is the closest to show the real numbers of People who died because of Covid-19 if you have a cancer and you catch a flu what the autopsy result Will be? That death occured by cancer or flu? Is I saw bere in my country Slovenia very few cases and we tested over 30k, border with Italy, Lombardy, Udine, Veneto were all near our border But yet 99% were older People died in caretakers home, so is this dangerous? Definetely not. And Definetely the People Who were exposed to Covid-19 Will get immunity with so low fatality rate is very bad decision to put People into 24hrs quarantines. What the italians and most of hospital did wrong In EU was too harsh medical procedure, little bit difficult with breathing and they put on Respiratory Machine and what happens there? The ph of blood gets scr... up AMD complications occure... So many mistakes were done and we Will learned from them But definetely you cannot say its all cause Covid-19.
