Hello everyone,

I will move to Bangkok in July and I hesitate between La- Kris tower Sukhumvit soi 33 and Garden Towers in BangNa.

Garden Towers seem to be more child friendly - I have a 9 month-old baby and will be easier to get to know new family, plus it's only a couple of minutes away of my husband's office.

On the other hand La-Kris tower is more central and would be nicer to go out at night (if we ever manage to find and trust a helper!!) and more convenient for our visitors to get around. Is it quite easy to get around in skytrain with a small baby?

Thanks for sharing your views,

I would live near the office. Bang Na has everything you may ever want (Bang Na central shopping mall + Seacon Square shooping mall - the world's largest when it was open) and really no need for your husband to spend hours commuting to/from work.

Bang Na may be a bit short in Christian Dior type of merchandise compared to extra expensive shopping malls near Soi 33.

Soi 33 is actually where the red light zone ends (Soi 33 is part that "Farang sex ghetto"), where a more expensive go-go bars are lined up. I would not live there with my family.

And it is not easy to get on Sky Train with a baby. In fact, it is hel_l hard to get to the train. Cracked pavements may destroy a cheaper stroller after 300m distance. Pavements are cracked, stray dogs everywhere, motorbikes drive on the side walk at will, and the curbs are 40cm above the street level so navigating them with a stroller is not fun...every few m a side street would require you to lift the stroller over the 40cm high curb and back again.

Sky train stations not always have an escalator...or if they do, it's 1 direction. So, lifting the baby and the stroller again...Once on the train, it is nice. Then, lift it all again to get off the train station. Baby bag, no better way.

I would go with Garden towers too. I know lots of people who live there and it is a really friendly community. Lots of children and as someone else pointed out, Bangna has it all! Bear in mind the skytrain extension will be finished by 2009 and it is easy to get to all the new stations. As for a helper you can trust, I imagine that 25 minutes after moving in you'll have a deluge of women offering their 'sisters' or 'aunties' for the job.
