hi...just a quick question...took a small packet to the local post office yesterday to send to my friend in UK...and was told Air Mail shipping to UK, Europe and the US had been suspended so couldn't post my packet. Tried searching online for info but didn't find anything. Any members know about this or have any detailed info on this subject...many thanks

 

Been like this since 28th March.

I received a overseas delivery from China a few days ago - not sure if this is country specific or not but I suspect it is - no planes going in/out means no carriers for the post

2 QUESTIONS:

 

Question 1:  I am expecting packages to be delivered to me here in Thailand by EMS.  Packages are from both Japan and the USA.  Both will have customs duty payable.  Will they be delivered to me here in Thailand, or are there restrictions on incoming mail from either country in light of Covid-19 concerns? 

 

I know that @CharlieH posted a link to the restrictions but translated info is confusing and I'm not sure if it is outbound or inbound mail they are restricting.  I mean the phrase "Destinations where international mails are available" is a very confusing description.  "Destinations" infers outgoing mail to me...so are restrictions on outgoing or incoming mail???

 

 

So, can anybody give me a simple and concise answer...will packages coming to me FROM Japan and USA be deliverable to me here in Thailand at this time or not?  And, if not, what will become of packages already in transit?

 

Question 2:  Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Thai Post will be delivering all packages to recipient's doorsteps during the present Covid-19 situation here in Thailand, rather than customer having to go into post office to pick up.  Will that be the case with EMS packages for which customs duty is payable?

 

 

 

 

 

Answer 1: Incoming mail from the US is being dealt with in the usual manner. I had a parcel from the US arrive a couple of days ago. The green and white customs document was delivered telling me how much I had to pay. I took that document to the post office, paid and collected my parcel. The same procedure as always.

 

Answer 2: Not in my case. See above.

I have ordered from China, it got held up in China but made to the airline carrier and on it's way to Thailand.

It's been a while but with a world pandemic what else can I expect. 

If having anything sent to you, you should check whats been advised on the dispatching Post Office website with regard to delays etc.

USPS etc.

 

There are disruptions. Services requiring "signature" on delivery have been stopped for safety reasons by many.

 

If duty is payable on an item it will be held at the Post Office for payment /collection.

If you dont agree the amount charged, you can pay, take the parcel and claim it back or claim first, wait for response, then get the parcel. Easy form available at the Post Office, you complete it, they will send it in for you.

I sent something EMS to a friend in French Polynesia on the 18/19th March, it was at the Charles de Gaulle airport on the 20th March and that s where it stayed, it is currently showing as cancelled on the tracking so it has sat there for 4 weeks and not moved, no idea if they will even forward it once flights resume.

Do you have a source for this? The guys at my post office say if i want to challenge the customs they have to send the parcel back for reevaluation.

If thats how your Post Office operates, I would find another, here is the actual form they should provide in such instances. If you choose NOT to pay they should hold the parcel until that request has been answered, the parcel goes nowhere. If you choose to pay, collect the parcel, and then submit, you must wait for their response, and if applicable, the Post Office will refund any payment made.

I'm aware of this form, this doesn't say that you can keep the items. It's also quite unlikely that customs would allow it because they could easily be cheated (take the parcel, pay 200k tax for your rolex, then claim the tax back saying it was just a fake rolex for 1000THB, they would have no way to prove it was a real rolex which you imported)

What you describe cant happen, as you PAY if taking it away, then you can claim based on your evidence that it is unfair, and why etc, they can reject or accept accordingly based on that evidence, or further evidence, so you cant scam anything without forged evidence.

 

But based on 100's of uses/occasions over 15 years, that's my source and experience as described, on EVERY single occasion it was necessary.

 

Believe it or not, that's up to you.

 

I appreciate all the replies but can somebody simply interpret the Thai Post guideline I attached concerning "Destinations where international mails are available"

 

I simply need to know if Thai Post will accept incoming packages from Japan during this Covid-19 situation.

They've always sent my packages back to bkk for re-evaluation. Customs in bkk have always reduced the tax ????

My usa parcels have been coming here as normal. Why not call the thai post hotline for Japan ? They answer the phones quickly 

Aside from your questions, I posted two item on March 17  from Bangkok to Australia, one by EMS, the other by Thaipost Airmail.

- The EMS package was delivered within 5 days

- The Thaipost package shows on 'track& trace' as 'in transit'. Checked w/ ThaiPost twice & no advice given, just usual 'shrug' & it's in transit!!  Can only presume w/ Commercial flights being cancelled, all cargo has been delayed till whenever???

In answer to question re: Japan or USA, don't think all matter much as all flights are suspended from everywhere , hence, cargo as well!!

All flights from everywhere haven't been suspended. There are still cargo flights.

DHL are having no issues, so their flts are operational too.

Cargo flights are still running; perhaps reduced schedule but still running.

Thanks!  I had no idea they had a hotline in English ????  For anyone else interested in reaching the hotline, the number is #1545. 

 

For general information it says to push option 1 but that the phone then hangs up, so push option 2 instead, and then there will be a list of options, one of which will connect you to general information.

Parcels from USA are still arriving-but expect delays

Had one parcel delayed in Germany for 3 weeks and another stayed in Hong Kong for a month-both from US

Yep. And Etihad are running cargo services to Australia, Europe, Bangkok, the Middle East etc.. with 22 planes on regular services plus 10 for charter.

It will definitely slow everything down as most airmail gets slung in the cargo hold of passenger planes in normal times but hopefully it won’t come grinding to a complete halt.

A friend has been told ( on Thursday 29th April) that there is no EMS post to the UK. I haven't read anything about postal restrictions, so has anybody attempted to post anything recently?
