Where Torture is legal apparently

A wee bit of Googling might reveal more...

Just ask some Iranians or Libyans.

Edit

Please do a search for 'collateral murder' and view that video.

Yes seen this on the News a day or so back, appalling and disgraceful.  But sadly not surprising or unusual in this brutal, violent and ruthless country where even the custodians and guardians of law and order are savages.

A country where religion is at the very core and the apparatus of the State, active in suppression of justice by forgiveness.  As demonstrated here, the elderly parents indoctrinated by decades of brainwashing in possibly the very Temple were their son was executed.

Disgrace on you Thailand !!

No suspects have been detained by police.

What is left to say, solders tortured in training, ie taught torture ! coming to the funeral is not respect at all IMO where are you now o chief or the military in hiding. going to promise a full investigation by yourself. Despicable !!!!!!!

Same as many countries... including America.

However, torture is never conducted on American Soil to extract information, it is done in Black Sites in another country.....if it is done on US soil, then there is true criminal charges against those that perpetuated the violence as it is a civil rights violation in the US.

Like waterboarding, for example?

No, just kicking the daylights out of someone until they're dead.

Why have not been charged by police?

Surely they had no legal right to even pick them up in the first place?

The military has always maintained that their members fall only under the military justice system, and are not subject to police jurisdiction. In some past cases where the police tried to detain active duty military members for crimes, the military has gone into the station and forcibly removed the suspect from police custody.

Should have told the army to stick it up their <deleted> !

If it were my son I certainly would, and not in a polite fashion either.

Exactly! How many life's was he responsible for ending with his drugs?

duarte has the right idea, so do the Thais.

Was he a drug dealer? I have no idea and neither do you unless you knew him personally.

If he was, then he should have been arrested by the local police or drug squad and NOT abducted by a gang of army hoodlums, tortured then beaten to death.

The "Sacred" army, my left foot. The problem starts at the top and the rot spreads downwards contaminating so many people on the way.

IMHO the army shoud throw these, (I hesitate to say soldiers because they are not) rabble to the police to jailed with no bail, then sent to trial, and if they are found guilty, given the death sentence,

Perhaps they wanted to find out if there was a hidden stash of goodies for trading?

Not sure I support the death penalty, the parents and the surviving son have to live with the trauma forever, so the perpetrators perhaps should do so as well.

Sad, as these things happen ONLY in Thailand...

Yes,never anywhere else, where they are generally covered up or the whole family dissapears.

like your sarcasm on this. Some posters here would do well to remember whilst not perfect,at least there is an investigation,i am sure if wrong doing is found a larger sum will come to the family, there are many worse regimes than Thailand.

Human life, street value at today date, 10,000THB + funeral cost.

Actually much less - this is an isolated case, most cases never come to light. We all know it's a military's regime - and after playing with parliamentary politics and rigging elections, the virus has helped a re-institution of total dictatorship... funding is increasingly off-limits to public disclosure or scrutiny, allowing someting like 18 billion off-budget spending in 2020.

I was also interested to hear recently about the practice of military salaries of conscripts who get let off duties after their inital training by channeling their salaries to their commanding officers...

Mammoth corruption and no need to come up with proper apologies for anything they do. Be grateful for 10,000 because they didn't need to give anything at all.

No regard for human rights suits you?

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Well not much no, if i see what harddrugs can do to a country and really make it a huge slump (like the phillies) than i can only agree that nothing is too harsh to clean up the place. The philipines are great islands, nice people but it's only those drugs/criminals/guns that ruin it for all.

All those whiners about Duterte should go there for a holiday themselves and get robbed/kidnapped...Even a macdonalds has 2 guards at the door with huge machineguns...

"There are many worse regimes than Thailand" - is that really where we should be placing the benchmark?

To be better than the worst!!  Or as good as the rest?  That is surely the way for any developed society to be headed.

Oh how much larger sum would you feel is adequate, if this were your son, brother or father?

What else can you do with a group of out of control soldiers, SNCOs and officers who don't care about rules, regulations, legality etc. If you put them in jail they will be released some day and if it is a military jail they will be treated reasonably.

If they were to be executed, true it would not bring the young man back, but it would serve as an object lesson, and may perhaps deter others from doing the same thing.

IMHO the Thai military are a disgrace from top to bottom and really ought to be disbanded.

Excellent summing up of the awful circumstances.  This country is poisoned from the TOP down, little wonder the poor uneducated and destitute need drugs.  Just to escape the tortuous Hamsters Wheel of their existence.

My God a revolution is needed here......like Yesterday!!

The perpetrators have probably forgotten about it already, it was a few weeks ago ????

The army dont only kill suspects they also kill their own when they find a weak soldier..

Life is so cheap in Thailand.. The learning starts off at the top .

What happened to the activist.. no one ever comes to justice..
