Flights back to normal by Oct 2021, says AOT

Airports of Thailand (AOT) expects the volume of flights to return to normal by October 2021, AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn announced on Thursday (April 23).

 

AOT’s management team forecasts that in fiscal year 2020 (October 2019 to September 2020) Thai airports will see about 493,800 flights and about 66.58 million passengers.

 

“Total flights and passengers will drop by 44.9 per cent and 53.1 per cent, respectively, due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” Nitinai said.

 

“The forecast was made by considering that recovery of the aviation business is dependent on the recovery of destination countries. Meanwhile, Thailand’s important destination countries are countries in the Asia-Pacific region which account for over 80 per cent of our travel.”

 

He expects domestic flights to recover before international services, since the latter are dependent on countries’ moves to contain the spread of Covid-19 and how long it takes to develop antiviral drugs or vaccines.

 

“If the Covid-19 situation is brought under control in countries worldwide, the economy in Thailand and other major countries will recover, while traffic volume will return to normal in October 2021,” he said.

 

Meanwhile, the AOT board had resolved to establish a limited company to manage the Perishable Premium Lane (PPL) project to build a certification hub for agricultural products, added Nitinai.

 

“AOT will hold 49 per cent of the shares, while the private enterprise with expertise in the field will hold 51 per cent,” he said.

 

"The project would increase flexibility in the management of Thai agricultural products to meet international standards."

 

He added that the PPL lane would inspect and prepare agricultural products in an area separate from the cargo terminal.

 

“This is like providing a business-class service for products, with experts taking care of products in the PPL lane before delivering them to the cargo terminal,” he added.

 

“We expect the limited company to be registered in June and begin operating in November this year.”

steaming cow pat's might be described as agricultural product as well so that could mean them becoming the hub of B/S ..

not unless they drop demand for insurance from covid and test certificates for covid

AOT and TAT .....

by Oct next year traffic might be back to normal, depending on what requirements to enter Thailand.

If vaccine available 12 months from now, these numbers are only a dream, as usual.

Any other country who love to post their arrival numbers?

Such optimism, maybe they get lucky, maybe not.

 

I shall have to remember to check back in about a year and a half.

Stupid to make any prediction when so much is unknown about how the virus situation will go. Maybe they open their mouth in case people forget who they are

man i feel happy about  my life and the words i chose to speak when i read articles like this. it's like a warm rainbow of love and unicorns and puppies surrounding me in comfort.

Deja vu with a date shift?

I remember various Thai officials and organisations telling us that there would be a tourism boom in April. How about Songkran in June? Remember that one? Another lead balloon.

Never mind they can busy themselves writing alcohol bans.

One good thing is the local police checks on cars and bikes have stopped. Too hot maybe? Police afraid of being in the front-line of the virus?

Flights may be back to normal but I think it is gong to be years before people start travelling like they used to

Maybe they haven't realised the rest of the world is skint also long haul destinations will be off the list for a while, I get the feeling British people will be holidaying at home and a lot depends on the cost of flights

Not sure making predictions for 18 months in the future is ever a good thing to do, especially not in a global pandemic.

This is the list from a standard day at Swampy (they can't even be bothered to update it). Few, if any, of those flights will operate.

The Butlins/Disneyland type local holidays in the various countries will be booming in the next few years with people reluctant to fly.

The Thai's need to concentrate within. DisBut Thailand perhaps.

Man, whatever they're smokin's alot better than the stuff I've got !  Agricultural what zone ? Is that where the B.S. Originates and can we gain entry through that channel if traveling in Steerage ? I guess a fresh load of B.S. on arrival never hurts ...

Yeah, and the economic situation... World economy might be in a depression the entire decade.. nobody knows yet.

Think the only way to get their wives off their back to do the laundry was to schedule a conference call with each other and some journalists, even though they have nothing to say.

He is very presumptuous! 

I suppose it depends on how you define normal, one thing is almost certain, there will be less flights operating in the future as demand will be lower and there will be less airlines operating, it is going to take a lot longer than 18 months for the travel industry to recover from the devastation caused by the virus.

That seems like a lot of arrivals I thought Thailand was in lock down

Maybe the AOT has a crystal ball that can tell Trump when America will be back to normal. Without that crystal ball they are just showing that they know nothing.  But, they feel they have to say something and stay in the news

If people don't travel how can the flights be back to normal. Will they fly the planes half empty?

Another announcement by the inept AOT , why , one wonders do they bother ..eh ?

Absolute nonesense.   How can they possibly forecast anything to do with air travel when most of it is out of their control?

How on earth can you make this statement now? I guess because it is 18 months away it's a pretty safe bet for most countries.
