I have read and understand that it will cost $25 on arrival, you will need the appropriate passport/photos etc etc, what i wanted to know is how long/many times can it be extended when you are in the country, and hypothetically what else i would be needing? (do you actually have to have a business, or can proof of earnings and the willingness to invest be enough?)

It is supposed to be $25 per month but border crossings are more likely to insist on 1500 Baht which is closer to $50 at current exchange.You can have 1,6 or 12 month at that rate per month,no limit on how many extensions.

If you do visa at an Embassy they may require letters of intro etc but border crossings just ask you which visa you want. You dont have to go back to border to renew as they use agents such as supermarkets,leave your passport and fee and pick up in 48 hours.

Get a business visa on entry $25,. then get a travel agent or similar to get you a 12 month extention multiple entry, $200 ,then you pay nothing when you enter cambodia for 12 months and at the airport saves a load of time,.and no , no proof required, dead easy going down there, un like other places !

A tourist Visa is $20 and the business Visa is $25. When the man asked why I wanted a business Visa I said I had $500,000 dollars to invest (I don't. I was just having fun with him) he got excited and said OK. Point is anyone can get a Business Visa in Cambodia for 30 days. Then its off to the travel agent where it is $140 for 6 months. No need to make a Visa run.

Also, don't let them scam you when you come into the country and let them only take Baht from you. They consider 1000 Baht to be only $20. I learned that one hard way.

Get a business visa for $25 on arrival. One photo, nothing else required!

You can then extend yourrselve for $265/YEAR.
