Nearly 500 tested at Phuket workers’ camps, all clear

PHUKET: Nearly 500 workers living at six major workers’ camps in Muang District have all passed COVID-19 screening, with not one person being recorded as having a high body temperature.

 

A team of 37 health officials accompanied by provincial defense volunteers and volunteers from the Government Savings Bank, all led by Siripong Leeprasit of the Phuket Provincial Civil Defense Committee, visited the six camps yesterday (Apr 24).

 

The aim of the campaign was to ensure that migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia were not overlooked in the current sweep of the island to make sure any persons suspected of being infected with COVID-19 are quickly identified and placed under observation.

A normal body temperature means NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH

It's no wonder the nation's figures are so low.

You can bet thousands have died in reality across the kingdom

The 'testing' probably involves a  thermometer gun purchased from the 20 baht shop

They aren't really at risk anyway. 

They don't mix with tourists. They on site building 12 hours a day. 

They get housed in a camp away from the general population. 

They would only catch it going shopping or something but it's mostly fit young guys, not old sick people.

What a bizarre statement... We are way past the tourist spreading it stage.

They are just as much, if not more than everyone else in Phuket.

They are under strict lockdown like everyone else within a prison like workers compound. 

I don't see how they are at more risk than me.

Yes the article headline is grossly wrong.  The text of the article says screening, while the title says "tested".  Methinks this will explain the low COVID 19 numbers.  

 

  Now even if they were testing, what would they do?  If the test (and there are several out there) checks for antibodies, than it just means you had or are carrying the virus, and nobody knows for how long you did that.  So you may have been exposed two months ago.  And no test I have read about can indicate if you are still possibly contatgious or not.  Most "experts" seem to think that after two weeks you can not transmit the virus.

Well take a look at Singapores numbers over the past 2 weeks...

 

Several days over 1000 cases but only 10-30 community cases, the rest in "locked down" workers camps !!

The difference is that in Singapore the workers are not locked down.

Yes they are... Dorms are quarantined. Otherwise the new cases would be all over the island..

Same in Phuket.. Plus in Phuket they can still go out for food shopping..

Their movements have always been very restricted, and on top of it there has been a lockdown now for 3 weeks or so here.

They're under the same restrictions as everyone, they're at the markets every morning/evening in Chalong.

There has been no enforced stay at home orders apart from 10pm-4am curfew...

Foreign construction worker can not leave the camp.

Thai foreman must take food, water etc give them. 

Thai worker on site must social distance.

Good system, no problem.

With this statement, you are declaring your ignorance of how Singapore treats their 300,000 foreign laborers. 

 

Laborers live, travel and work in conditions similar to prisons.  They are kept separate from Singaporeans in an apartheid-like system and the reason why covid-19 infections are exploding within the laborer community is because they have been forced into lock-down behind walls and fences, sleeping 20 to a dorm.
