Depends upon what prey you are after. Many ladyboys enjoy a nice Leo now and again.

this is completely idiotic, sending masses to go fight and hoard

The people who are going to fight are idiots.

I can see this happening - social distancing wont be an issue as stores will only be able to sell limited stock, which will run out in 30 minutes

About 5% of the people will get lucky in buying it I expect, similar to the 5000 baht scheme

Yes apparently it was done in pre-history by shaman and druids but alas the method has been lost to time.

So i can use Malted Milk like Ovaltine, or

The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) banned the sales of alcohol on Apr 10. Originally, the ban was supposed to last until April 20, but has since been extended to April 30.

An announcement might be made later today (April 29), if the ban will continue.

Good for this bar owner having the courage to stand up against the absurd and erratic alcohol restrictions applied by puritanical Thai leaders.

Yes, I understand the reasoning, here, but don't quite "get" the TIMING...

(a) we still don't know whether May public holidays, including that on Friday (Labor Day), are going to be cancelled (to encourage continued social distancing), and

(b) why just TWO days duration (maximum panic buying, minimum social distancing)? Authoritarian muscle flexing??

Liver applauding, but brain leans towards conjecture when in need of a beer!!

Public holidays have not been canceled accoprding to reports in todays news papers.

Correct.  And the alcohol ban hasn't been extended yet either.

Also correct, as there are more government meetings today, so I hear.

When you are finished with a trolley cart tradition dictates it should be disposed of in the nearest river or canal.

I do hope you will respect this long established custom.

Or paint it green and fill it with potted plants.

thanks buddy.  not a regular drinker but am going to make an order

I think I have never drank more regularly since the government said I couldn't do it

What a stupid, ridiculous. moronic idea.  Which Muppet thought up this one.

But  "many more" people are still  congregating at every street market in East Pattaya  and have done since the start of this virus...So why the ban?

Thais do what they want

My wine connection cart is full with 24 bottles, just waiting on the ban being lifted so I can finalize the order and have it delivered to restock my wine refrigerator.....

All the small booze shops around my area in east Chiang Mai have been closed for 2 weeks now

I was sure some would be trading quietly but no.

Common sense would suggest that the reason for banning the booze is to prevent Somchais from sitting in groups and drinking, then after killing some brain cells going off to do other inappropriate things which would spread the virus, such as returning to hug and kiss family members.

Without 'generalising' I think it's fair to say that the government mainly target low-income Thai males as the target group to control in this case. From experience, these guys are completely incapable of buying in advance and rationing the booze for even a few days, never mind a month. This is partly because they don't have the money, and mainly because they can't control themselves or trust their buddies not to cheat. They drink all they have until it's gone.

In this sense, the 2-day window and a new ban makes sense, allowing expats and more wealthy to stock up and ration.

how special would this drunk be to get covid, there are about 10 or so cases a day and most of those are in detention centres and in Yala so of the 64.99999 million of us left this drunk takes it home, it does not make any sense at all, we are now in a nanny state and we have to do whatever mommy prayut tell us bad children to do.

But how long to stock up for? A month? Three months? Six? Where's the official advice when you need it?

The main reason for the ban is not simply to prevent socialising. 40% of hospital A&E cases before the ban were related to alcohol. This is now down to 15%.

Banning alcohol frees up much needed healthcare staff and beds for Coronavirus. Despite what the government says Coronavirus is ripping through Thailand. Daily death rates in April 2020 are almost 3 times the norm. In April 2013-18 it ran at 400 per day. In April 2020 its running at 1300 per day which is 900 more than they would expect. The official figures are kept low to prevent social unrest.

Expect the heavy ban to last well into the summer/autumn but it may be partially lifted for a few days to allow you to stock up. However the days of constant binge drinking are over and this will probably be the new norm going forwards.

Good God!

You should join the samaritans if this uplifting epistle is anything to go by!

Will the 2 till 5 pm ban apply on those 2 days? The shops will be crowded and probably run out of booze on the first day anyway.

You are not alone in that.  That is why its  such a stupid idea, making people buy loads of booze on the off chance that it will be restricted for a long time.  All done for the benefit of the industry, not the people.

Looks like a few monks did not get he memo on an alcohol ban let alone the memo they are not supposed to drive or be out after curfew

There is NO ban on consumption. Simply a ban on purchasing.

This is the same for "normal" days when no alcohol can be purchased. Mother's Day etc..

So everyday is Mother's Day. Could be a sequel for Bill Murray.

You might be lucky to get away with some serious scowls if you are seen drinking in public nowadays, might even get you an invitation to the local cop shop.
