The Nakhon Ratchasima communicable disease committee has announced clear guidelines for visitors to the province, aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19.

Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Wichian Chantharothai said on Saturday (May 2) that people who enter the province from May 1 must report to village health volunteers in their area within 24 hours of arriving.

“Meanwhile, the village health volunteers must report to the public health officials as soon as possible,” he said.

“People coming from Bangkok, Phuket, Nonthaburi, Yala, Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Pattani, Songkhla, Chiang Mai and Pathum Thani must undergo 14 days quarantine at their residence.”

He further explained that people who enter the province must observe their symptoms, maintain a distance with others, refrain from gatherings, not share items with others, wash their hands regularly and wear a face mask.

“If they have symptoms, such as fever, coughing, sore throat and panting, they must inform public health officials at hospitals located in their area as soon as possible,” he said

He added that if people who were ordered to undergo quarantine must return before the due date, public health officials must examine their health before allowing them to return.

“If their temperature was over 37.5 degrees Celsius, the officials must send them to a hospital as soon as possible.”

sensible stuff, but as ever, the proof of the pudding will be with the enforcement. hopefully individuals will follow the guidelines and take personal responsibility for the safely of their family, friends and others, but if they dont what's going to happen to them...? and will this be consistent throughout the province? and if they are 'somebody' are they exempt? and, it's alright talking about villages, but what about towns and cities how's it going to work in large population areas - who will know who has arrived from outside the province...? etc. etc...

And what about people transiting through? Nakhon Ratchasima Province is the main access/drain for all Isaan.

Are there police checks on Highway's 24 and 2 if travelling through NR Province from Buriram (starting from Sisaket) to Bangkok? Are police merely waving folk through or are they stopping and grilling/temp checking? Any documentation requirements? Sounds as though there has been very heavy traffic over the holiday weekend and I imagine it has been mostly a wave through job to date.

My purpose would be medical (not Covid - specialist consultation on topic not covered well in my neck of the Isaan woods). I'll probably wait another couple of weeks to see whether there is a covid spike post the holidays, but meanwhile it would be useful to have anyone's local or in-transit experience.

Experience has been 'wave-through only' on Highway 24 between Kantharalak (Sisaket) and city of Ubon (Ubon province) travelling East or West, though if you phoned up Ubon City Hall they would talk about having documentation and quarantine requirements. There's provincial rules and then there's what the police can (or want) to do in practice
