Foreigners and Thais arrested after caught drinking in Pattaya bar

Police on Saturday arrested a group of eight people, including three foreigners, who were caught drinking inside a bar in Pattaya.

 

Police searched the Pussy Cat Club in Nong Prue just after 9pm after seeing lights on inside the premises, despite the bar trying to appear closed. 

 

Three foreigners and five Thai nationals, some of whom are understood to be staff from the bar, including the 41 year old owner, were found inside.

 

Those arrested face a possible 100,000 baht fine or up to one year in jail for violating the conditions of Thailand’s Emergency Decree.

 

The news comes as Thailand on Sunday is set to relax some of the measures introduced to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

 

Some businesses, such as restaurants, hair salons and golf courses can reopen from May 3, providing strict social distancing measures are in place. 

 

Also on Sunday, Thailand will allow alcohol to be sold from convenience stores and supermarkets for people to take away and drink at home.

 

Bars and pubs are to remain closed.

Because without these foreigners they would not open the bar. The foreigners are the problem because they pay for it.

Put it this way Peter. If the same scenario had happened in your country, e.g. US or UK, I doubt the report would highlight your citizens breaking the law, when it's more newsworthy to blame foreigners for leading your citizens astray.

No it's because Thais blame everyone else for their problems. Are you going to sit there and say if we all got up and left there wouldn't be any crime in Thailand? If we all leave they would blame us for their economic collapse.

IMO, this news arrest is small beer in the whole scheme of things where the coronavirus is causing more global deaths per day than Thailand has suffered since December 2019. Of course, communal gathering could be an infection trigger, but is the risk low enough to control a local outbreak?

 

Having said that, yes it's totally irresponsible and shows contempt for the millions abiding by the law - fine and deport the foreigners as an example to others.

I think you've become indoctrinated into believing the worst, and that's not really a healthy attitude. IMO, many posters on here can only post negative comments, whatever the subject, which indicates that living away from their home country is not the utopian outcome they'd anticipated.

So this is one step closer for Pattaya to get the ban again. And it is the Bar Owners fault on the bigger percent, but then the thought of making money and having life is too tempting.

I would say we have more to worry about when they let a mass exodus of people return to their home provinces for the long weekend than a couple of folk enjoying a cheeky beer.... Seriously...
