Can anyone assist please. As mentioned in other postings many of the visa rules and regulations are contained in the DSP,

Having read the rule pasted below contained in Chapter 7 namely :

The form of payment may be by cash, bank draft, postal or money order payable to the mission. Payment can also be made in the form of a banker's draft obtained by the sponsor from a bank in the UK and made payable in the local currency to the appropriate mission. No other form of payment is acceptable

1. How come one is in fact NOT permitted to pay in cash but one is instead asked to purchase an instrument termed a 'Demand Draft" and use that in payment resulting in an extra fee being payable ?

2. When it states clearly that a Banker's Draft should be used and NO OTHER FORM OF PAYMENT why is a Demand Draft and NOT a Bankers draft issued and accepted. I understand a Banker's draft has to be issued by a bank .

The Demand Drafts sold at the VAC are issued by the VAC cashier and are unknown in the UK (but used in India).

My question therefore simply stated is : are the DSP rules correct and obligatory ?...or are they just advisory.

Many thanks in anticipation as I am really puzzled by the contradictory rules..

I dont know the source of the DSP you quote but in Bangkok you can only pay by bankers draft or you can buy the draft at the UK Visas Office when you present your application see Visa Fees .

I could make a guess that the facilities you quote are still applicable to payment at embassies or consulates around the world who do not use a third party agent to assist processing as the consulates do accept cash when you deal with them direct.

A Bankers draft bought at a bank in Thailand is only a few Baht and a few Baht more if you buy at UK Visas.

Many thanks Mahout for taking time off to reply to my question.

The rule pasted above is on the official UK Visa website under DSP Chapter 7.

The section concerns payment of visa fees and this can only be made to VAC and not to the Embassy unfortunately.

Sorry to have to provide contradictory information but Thai banks issue Demand Drafts and not Bankers' Drafts as required in the regulations. To obtain a Banker's Draft one would probably have to purchase this in the UK.

These are different instruments . Demand drafts are common in India but unknown in the UK.

So back to the original question....are the DSP regulations purely advisory ?
