Has it changed. When I was there it was Thursday and Friday.

Hi Norfolk, Yes it did change. I cannot remember the exact year, but for a long time in Saudi the imams resisted change because the Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. However, the government realised they were losing a lot of trading time due to their weekend being Thursday / Friday, then the rest of the world was closed for business on Saturday and Sunday. It was sometime around 2013 that the King changed the weekend to Friday / Saturday which brought them in line with most of the neighbours.

Thanks for that. I always remember, our Wednesday nights where like Friday nights. Out with the boys down the Pub. (BAE)

Restaurants in Pattaya are open with the same guidelines as Bangkok. Many restaurants choose to remain closed because of those restrictions, the inability to sell alcohol and the fact that they would have insufficient customers to make opening viable.. Many markets never closed in Pattaya, but were restricted to selling food items only. They are now fully open. Beaches in Pattaya are closed to discourage tourists (primarily from Bangkok) to visit.

I think you will find that restaurants in BKK allow seated customers whereas in Pattaya it is take away only..!!

So just how would anyone know that you left your province and then returned home ?...As far as the hotel serving Alchohol the answer is a firm maybe..I've been bringing my own as I travel around running the checkpoints and have never been stopped or bothered....

I hope so. Desperate to get to ikea (yes I know you can order online but not everything is available on there).

An interesting definition of desperation.

There are families in my village who are desperate to feed their children.

Mainly day labourers, don't qualify for assistance.

Come on make your mind up, is it the end of this week, or Sunday which is the start of next week!!!

Most normal people would see the end of the week as Sat/Sun(weekend?)

When it comes to Thai bashing, normality goes out the window.

It is obvious that standard-size pools (25 m - thus not fancy-shaped splash pools) in condos could be safely opened for swimmers, if these rules were observed:

The pool in my gated village opened on Monday after the juristic manager phoned the city hall. Closed again today as she saw the latest announcement regarding pools on TV.

Wrong. Same rules as Bangkok.

I believe "fun parks" would cover Harborland.

What I find a bit weird is the 1 pot per 1 person suki rule. You can be locked up with the family all month, but can't eat the same suki ?

It's purely a sales campaign.

Of course, that is the unfairness of life.

There are millions of poor people all over the world. I don't live in a village in rural Thailand so that rightly or wrongly doesn't impact my day to day life at all.

It is about as insane as limiting the size of a family at one table. There is an astonishing amount of ignorance floating around, at this stage. You can stay together in the same home, but you cannot eat together at the same table? Who is making these rules? I am astonished they never got rid of Anatin. To have such an uneducated man (in the field of health) running the health ministry during a crisis was an abomination.

a great example how they do things here differently, like; same same but not the same ????????

They seem so often to classify Monday as the first day of the week.

Heaven only knows why, wouldn’t get any sense asking, as it would become more enigmatic from the response.

Why can't Buddha image shops open? That sounds like a bizarre exclusion. Others I understand, like cinemas.

Don’t ask, trust me, don’t ask you will probably be quite amazed, dumbfounded by the answer

“On the 7th day he rested.” Sunday.

so Monday is start of the week.

Many would argue that was Saturday, but I am not getting into that.

When does the week start ?  My calendars all say Sunday. my diaries say Monday. I had to make my own diary this year as I want the top of every left hand page to say Monday.  Every diary for the past 10 years , top left Monday. ( couldn't find one this year ). Oh how I hate a different day top left.   When I last went to school 58 years ago the week started Monday.

True, the twists and turns to get in some kind of bash are astonishing. Many, of course, draw on ignorance and provincialism, as in this case.

According to international standard ISO 8601, Monday is the first day of the week. It is followed by Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday is the 7th and last day of the week.

No. But we like to think that to make ourselves feel superior.

As they should, following international standard ISO 8601. Good on 'em.

You now know the reason, and it's perfectly clear, not enigmatic. So that leaves us with a proposed senseless question.

And, it's not official yet.  This group has no authority to implement policy.  It has to be approved by the PM.  It's confusing to me why this group is even issuing statements which can cause confusion among the public if their recommendations which many people take as policy are not approved by the PM.

Great response and I completely agree with the risk of the spread you meantioned. However, Thailand's virus situation is not comparable to UK and US. There are just a few cases registered in Thailand that are close to 0. I believe it's the time to lift all the restrictions in Thailand, especially when the borders are closed.

Not really a logical argument, as the nursing homes inflate the figures over there and testing is much more widespread. The true extent of the spread in Thailand isn't really known, less so than there. In fact our TVF Virologists insist the number is understated by Thais attributing deaths to other causes that they know was owing to COVID. One may still argue that the reason that the virus hasn't spread more is owing the Thai authorities' success in following the measures they thought efficacious, however imperfectly applied; and so the bias for listening to them is more compelling than that against, no matter what our TVF Virologists have determined from their keyboards.

Moreover, in USA states and cities, and in UK provinces and cities, having few or no cases, the same measures have been and are being followed. Hence you still haven't explained why Thai authorities' logic is inferior to USA and UK authorities' logic or why you need to think so.
