Non-compliance of measures in some places as restrictions lifted

Many people appear to have let their guard down and are disregarding measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 now that restrictions are being slowly eased.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said that though there were just two new confirmed cases on Tuesday (May 12), people should not stop taking precautions as the virus is still alive in the country and the situation in other countries is getting worrisome.

Based on information collected by the CCSA, non-compliance of measures was noticed in 2.7 percent of sites on May 7 and 2.9 percent on May 11.

On May 11, officials inspected 20,091 locations and found that 14,134 had fully complied with prevention measures such as social distancing, wearing of face masks and providing hand-sanitising gel.

The officials also found that while 5,372 locations or 26.7 percent partially complied with the rules, 585 or 2.9 percent completely ignored them.

Restaurants and public parks were the biggest culprits when it came to disregarding prevention measures.

On May 11, authorities inspected 7,264 restaurants and found that 267 or 3.7 percent were non-compliant, a number that rose 0.7 percent from the previous day.

Officials inspected 471 public parks nationwide on May 11 and found that 15 or 3.2 percent were ignoring the measures, or 0.5 percent more than the previous day.

Of the 4,245 beauty salons and barbers inspected, 125 or 2.5 percent were found to be ignoring prevention regulations.

Officials also visited 201 golf courses and found that 5 or 2.5 percent were non-compliant, up 1.3 percent from the previous day.

From May 3 to 11, officials inspected 126,711 locations and found that 76,791 had fully complied with preventive measures, 45,835 or 36 percent had partially complied, while 4,085 or 3.2 percent ignored them altogether.

The government is planning to let more businesses reopen on May 17, with department stores, beauty clinics and foot-massage parlours expected to be among them. This will be the second phase of reopening after the first phase kicked off on May 3.

Checking temperature is useless and a waste of time. It doesn't prevent the virus spread. I feel sorry for those people who have to stand and take the temperature. They could've done something else more productive.

Wearing masks and personal hygiene should suffice entering a market. No need for long queues and congestions for a temperature check.

Or any of the markets...........................

I feel sorry for restaurants, as compliance is nigh on impossible given that what they must comply with is as grey as they come, which of course is always the aim, loads of wiggle room for payments that way!

I am not sure what the restrictions are designed to achieve.

Are they saying this will prevent you catching the virus and if so how long will it have to go on for?

Or are they saying we are all gong to get it but if we slow the infection rate with isolation the peak will be flattened, no as high but an awful lot longer?

If the latter just how long do they expect it to go on for?

In every mall and market/shop i see staff without a mask....but as long as they are not farang it doesn't matter i guess?

Where do they get these statistics Bangkok only I've never seen any officials out to get numbers in the thousands!

There is now such thing as Covid-19 it's just a strain of seasonal flu as shown by all of the independent doctors and virologists speaking out over the last month.

The figures point to it being even less dangerous than common flu with less deaths than a common seasonal flu around the world.

Are they serious?  To achieve an average compliance of over 97% across the four business areas is phenomenal in Thailand!

<deleted> are they complaining about?!!

I've also noticed a fair few people letting their guard down over the past week. I have to personally approach people and remind them to wear their face masks and politely explain to them the importance of protecting others. The general reaction i got from people was very apologetic as though they had just forgot, so i don't think it was exactly intentional from their part.

What a load of BULLs#@# has anyone seen the Khlong boats packed like sardines as per "always", buses, K Toey markets, etc I have video of all. Look Dr T............... Thailand has sensational LOW numbers, and it has ZERO to do with your stupid alcohol ban, how fake was that! Hot climate plus us all wearing masks has kept the death toll thankfully super LOW. You have a mask on and I have a mask on, end of problem, as long as we don't decide to have sex with each other in public, God forbid!!!! So lift the stupid 10pm to 4 am curfew and open everything back up, the poor Thais need their economy back. You only gave a handful the 5k baht, no farrangs for a while so help the common folks out and stop with the expensive committees and investigations of no importance!

Beaches and swimming pools are 100% safer than the BTS/MRT or long boats, markets, all packed like sardines! But lets ignore the OBVIOUS. You wear a mask and I wear a mask = NO PROBLEM! Get over yourself Dr T!

Yes, i understand there is always the chance of someone reacting in such a way, but i'm not being at all confrontational. and i understand how easy it can be to forget. I went shopping at Big C the other day and completely forgot to wear my mask. When i tried to enter the store, the staff said to me please wear mask Mr, and i said oh sorry, sorry I forgot, smiled at them  and went back to my car to get my mask. No harm done and no hard feelings. If people tell me to get lost, then okay, i can''t force people, i'm not the law, i'm just trying to do my small part to help my local community .

What is "the hole time" Do we have to try and avoid it?

Correct same as Tesco's, plenty of lines marked on the floor just for show as no or little thought put into it and no notice by customers if they could.

I think you would need a first wave before talking about a second wave.

Or do you think 3000 people with a bit of a cold and 55 dying of flu is something we should all be staying indoor for for the next 3 months.

Would not wear a mask while I'm having ''My Hole'' might ask the girl to though....

THe virus lives in people, not in 'officially diagnosed' cases. This has never been a secret - the truth is we don't know how many carriers there are. 80% or more can be asymptomatic.

I quite agree it is useless, but it's a job at a time when millions don't have one. Smile at them and say thank you...you'll make their day.

Wearing masks and personal hygiene should suffice entering a market. No need for long queues and congestions for a temperature check.

Sure, makes more sense to keep ALL the gates open and have runners go around collecting information about how many went in or out of each one, right?

Did anyone suggest that 'checking temperature' is there to prevent virus spread, or simply filter out anyone who is sick who is out and about with a temperature?

Wearing masks and personal hygiene do nothing for crowds in high footfall areas. This is the whole point - so markets need to be quiet, and not too many people can go.
