May 18, 20205 yr I’m interested in completing my work permit medical at one of the following hospitals: Bumrungrad: No syphilis blood test and just a physical examination. I’ve browsed the forum here and it says the syphilis blood test is compulsory. I spoke to the hospital on Saturday and they said not compulsory as the medical certificate needs to confirm the absence of tertiary syphilis which is confirmed during physical examination. A blood test confirms primary syphilis they said which I guess you could still technically get a work permit with as tertiary syphilis is specifically stated. Bumrungrad are not stupid so surely they know what is and isn’t required by the Labour Dept? Cost = 750 baht Sukhumvit Hospital: They enforce a chest x ray (which they acknowledged was not required but no option to refuse it) and the syphilis blood test which they say is definitely required. Cost = 1500 baht Qn 1. Can anyone confirm that Bumrungrad is correct and no blood test is required? In 2010 I went to Bumrungrad minus the blood test and it was accepted for my work permit but things change? Qn 2. Back in 2010 I’m pretty sure the validity of the cert. was either 3 months or 6 months. Now both hospitals say it’s only 1 month? Can anyone confirm this as don’t want to make two trips. Thank you.
May 18, 20205 yr Q1: Yes, correct, no blood test is required. Did the certificate at Bumrungrad last month and have the work permit same as every year. Q2: Yes, the Bumrungrad one says valid for 1 month. Some other people go to clinics and pay 180 baht and it'll say whatever you want ????

May 18, 20205 yr I had my test at Bangkok hospital in surat, and had the blood test , not sure about any other hospitals, but I'm assuming all Bangkok hospital branches will have it on the list.
May 18, 20205 yr There are clinics who will do it, and their certificates are accepted. Few hundred baht tops. No need to be stuck with needles for it.
May 18, 20205 yr Author Yes I’m sure there are clinics who do it for a few hundred baht but the last clinic I went to wanted to take blood as well. I just called Bumrungrad to make an appointment and the lady on the phone said 680 baht so not sure why the chap on the counter said 700-800 baht but anyway not bad at all for a hospital like that. I’ll drink that in the “free” fruit juice they provide.
May 19, 20205 yr Need to go to a blood work clinic. B100.00 Take that to a ‘Dr’ who’ll ask for your passport, B100.00 Include those two documents in your work permit application
May 19, 20205 yr the little pharmacy down suk soi 11 I went to a couple of times - yes they take a blood sample tho - was like 500 bt but that was years ago - in and out in 15 minutes with the correct page filled out - I didn't know you could just get a physical and that tested for it - out in rangsit now is like 600-700bt at the hospitals for the blood test - 45-60 minute wait and bam you are done
May 19, 20205 yr There is a supplement to pay for lack of accurate information. The market price is B100.00

May 19, 20205 yr For the last 8-9 years i have had mine done at Sukhumvit Samitivej. Up until about 4 years ago it was just a physical. Last 4 years i needed blood test for T.Syphilis. I did one year recently at BNH and they needed the blood test and chest Xray, presumably for TB. Price ranges from about 1,000-1,300 THB in the varying places.
May 19, 20205 yr My local labor office asks for syphilis testing in the last couple years, a pin <deleted> and a 5 minute wait at the doctor's office. Doctor asks me if I'm feeling well, I'm insane, and if I have any chronic illnesses. Cost 80 baht with 2 copies from the clinic. Good for 2-4 weeks as far as the labor office is concerned.
