Accident Motorcyclist Dies After Skidding into Drainage Canal in Bangkok
Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 30-year-old man has died after losing control of his motorcycle and being flung into a drainage canal in the early hours of the morning. The incident occurred on Ratchada-Tha Phra Road in Bangkok’s Thonburi district, with police now reviewing CCTV footage to determine the cause of the crash and whether another vehicle was involved. Pol. Lt. Natthaphong Khanarat, an investigator from Bukkhalo Police Station, responded to the scene at approximately 01:30 on 13 July. He was accompanied by medical personnel from Chulalongkorn Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. The incident took place near the entrance to Soi Ratchada-Tha Phra 7. Officers found a black Honda ADV motorcycle, registration from Bangkok, lying on its side with visible scraping damage in the right lane of the road. The body of the rider was discovered submerged in the nearby central drainage canal. Rescue personnel recovered the body and handed it over to forensic staff for examination. The deceased was identified as Mr. Wachirawit, aged 30. A large wound was found on his chin, and he had blood from the mouth, nose and ears. Eyewitnesses in the vicinity reported hearing the sound of a motorcycle skidding and sliding, but did not see the crash itself. They conducted a search and eventually discovered the man’s body in the canal. One witness noted that a pink taxi had been seen parked at the entrance to the alley at the time. The driver reportedly approached the scene, said he was startled by what he saw and then quietly drove away. It remains unclear whether the taxi had any involvement in the crash. Police are currently examining surveillance footage from the area to determine if any other vehicle may have been involved, particularly whether the motorbike was struck by another car before veering off course. If a second vehicle is found to be involved, officers will pursue the driver for questioning and potential legal action. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Forensic Department at Chulalongkorn Hospital and relatives are being contacted. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-07-14 -

Community Man’s Body Found Floating in Canal Near Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital
Picture courtesy of SiamNews. A decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered floating face down in a canal beside Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital on Ratchadamnoen Road on the morning of 13 July. At approximately 11:30, officers from Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat Police Station were alerted to the discovery of the corpse in Khu Phai Canal. Responding officers, along with doctors from the hospital and rescue volunteers from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation, promptly attended the scene. The deceased, believed to be between 45 and 50 years old, was found wearing a black crew-neck T-shirt and black shorts. The body, which had begun to bloat, was recovered from the water for preliminary examination. No visible wounds or signs of assault were found, and investigators estimate that the man had been dead for at least 24 hours. According to a local resident who made the discovery, he had been casting a fishing net in the canal when he noticed a human-like object floating past. On closer inspection, he realised it was a body and immediately notified the police. No identification documents were found on the deceased. However, residents in the area reported that the man bore a resemblance to a local vagrant frequently seen sitting at a nearby bus stop, just a short distance from where the body was found. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death. The body has been sent to Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital for a full autopsy to establish the cause and time of death, as well as to identify the individual. Police are continuing their investigation and attempting to locate the man’s family to proceed with legal formalities. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamNews 2025-07-14 -
