Just take the freakin' phone off him and give the world a break..

He makes Captain Queeg look the very model of sanity whilst conning his ship in the midst of a typhoon.

  • So again Trump is telling lies, and again in stead of attacking the source of the lies you attack the people setting the facts straight.

  • i agree, but considering the volume of misinformation and lies spread by trump via twitter will be an expensive exercise.

not surprising given Twitter is controlled by the far-left

I am surprised of the immense power of the left and far-left in the U.S.A..

Apparently they control also the Media and the Universities.

Has the right and far - right not any power to obstruct this?

I find the assertion odd.  The fact checking tag has only been used in the case of Trump for a few hours.  Too soon, I would think, for a thorough fact check.  Do you have a link for that? Google isn't helping me.

What would Trump Presidency be without Twitter?

Trump’s response has been to declare Twitter’s action an attack on free speech and he goes on to say, ‘I, as President, will not let it happen’.

He seems not to understand Twitter is a private business, their platform is not a ‘public space’.

He also exposes he has little understanding of the limits of Presidential powers.

The root cause of his anger, somebody has the impertinence to challenge his lies.

I can see a problem here already. Why would I trust Twitters "fact checkers"? I have no idea who these individuals are, but seeing as the Facebook fact check team are a panel of well known leftists it is clearly a farce.

For the record, the mighty Facebook "fact check" team includes the deranged academic Pamela Karlan, who was a star witness during the Trump impeachment. Although she saw and witnessed and knew nothing at all about the case she was abusive towards Trumps young son, and said she crossed the road to not have to walk past one of Trumps properties. And we are expected to believe this will be a fair and impartial judge?!

 https://www.reuters.com/article/us-facebook-oversight-members-factbox/factbox-who-are-the-first-members-of-facebooks-oversight-board-idUSKBN22I2N0

Predictable. What evidence do you have the fact check team as a whole are a panel of well known leftists, or are you simply following your idol's model of spreading misinformation and lies?

Something ironic in Trump accusing Twitter of impeding freedom of speech, when he has abused the privilege so often. Of course, freedom of speech by fact checkers is not to be tolerated.

'Trump's claims are unsubstantiated' is a very mild way of saying Trump was completely wrong.

So your claim is totally wrong as well.

Yes, what a great idea - bring on the censorship and let Twitter decide what are the facts.

Apparently the 'problem' stems from the fact that the Good Lord, in His infinite wisdom, seems to have bestowed upon the "far-left" brains.  Virtually all of the innovations and discoveries come from folks whose ideology is left-leaning. Silicon Valley was built by leftists.

The late Roger Ailes tried to begin leveling the playing field by---according to his actual Business Plan---building a network to go after the Low IQ Demographic, people befuddled by issues that had even a modicum of complexity. He also purposely hired Talking Heads from 2nd and 3rd Tier Universities, because "the ignorant can better appeal to the ignorant'. He admitted in his funding spiel that the average target demo individual earned below average, but collectively they could represent a viable market for advertisers.

As a private company, a place like Fox is under no obligation to allow 1st Amendment Free Speech, especially after changes made for broadcasters by Reagan that no longer required 'equal time'. Twitter is allowed the same right to control its platform in whatever manner it so chooses.

Better question would be are Twitter sure they want to ban Trump or keep censoring him on very shaky evidence? After they de-platform him, he will move to a social media account that allows free speech such as Gab. Then all the haters and fans will follow him there. Not good for Twitter. Time for them to wind their neck in.

On the subject of banning and fact checking Twitter accounts. What should happen to Maddow and MSNBC accouts when she said the hospital ships aren't coming? What should happen to CNN and their Twitter account when they awarded Claas Relotius journalist of the year? How about when CNN claimed the schoolkid was smirking and abusing that Indian guy? How about all the journalists who claimed on Twitter that Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election?.... Well you get the gist of it. Censorship, a very very slippery slope.

The amazing thing is that so many people think this is a good idea. People are so willing to give up their freedom of speech.

Driven by vengeance to the brink of madness, yes, but he was both honest and fearless.

The personage at the subject of this thread is a coward and a liar.  Even a fictional character does not deserve to be compared to him. Well, maybe a few, like Iago.

That comment is rather naive. A fact is a fact only if it really is a fact. Who's going to check that?

True facts about the coronavirus are hard to come by and most are open to interpretation. Twitter has decided that it will be the final word on what is the truth and what isn't. That's exactly what the Chinese government does.

Freedom of speech and freedom to tell lies are two different things.

Appears people are confusing trumps freedom of speech with his freedom to tell lies, dressed up as free speech.

Correcting a lie is not an infringement of free speech or fake news, its stopping a liar.

There seems to be a bloc of leaders that are following what the US gov't is doing, or rather not doing.  Looks like the wheels are coming off in Brazil.  I guess these megalomaniacs have been getting their way for so long they've lost track of the fact that they are not masters of reality.

I wonder what Steve Bannon is up to these days.

Topic at hand, quite a few bipartisan and Republican and even Trump investigations have shown Trump to be wrong.

Your second paragraph is nonsense on the virus, is nonsense on the Twitter statement and is totally over the top in the china comparison.

In the post I reacted to, none of the comments about 'banning and fact checking Twitter accounts' are facts, except the Rachel Maddow claim, but that one is incorrect since it was not what she stated.

C'mon, don't play dumb, you all know he's a compulsive liar.  If you believed his words y'all would have huffed the Clorox by now.

The thing is the people who are his fans accept it.  Cult of personality.  You've found someone to believe in, congrats!

trump has pushed for legislation to enable him to sue media outlets contrary to 'free speech'. At the same time whilst President trump is immune from legal action to sue him for defamation / slander. trump tries to undermine democracy as demonstrated by Twitter removing his false allegations concerning mail in voter fraud. trump is a liar and a hypocrite.

A private business flagging lies on their own platform is not a breach of anyone’s freedom of speech.

What else would you expect from Trump fans? They just have to keep repeating his lies. Keep Trump’s lying narrative alive. Keep repeating Trump’s lies enough times until people start to think they are true. Trump fans have no interest in the truth.

Twitter is a private business. As such they can allow what is said on their platform and what is not said. It is not that difficult to understand.
I think we should be quite frank about what you mean by an attack on freedom of speech. You do not really care about freedom of speech do you? All you care about is that Trump is being called out on his lies.

It appears that the main users are legacy media journos who just feed off each other rather than actually investigate a real story.

Absolutely, 100% wrong.  It's a public company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as TWTR.
