Thai researchers closer to finding Covid-19 vaccine

A researcher at the Chula Vaccine Development Centre shows a tube of vaccine prototype. This prototype is now being tested on macaques.

Hope is in sight for the region as Thai researchers make progress in the hunt for a vaccine against coronavirus, which has wreaked havoc across the world for several months now.

“If we can produce a Covid-19 vaccine, we can provide it to other Asean nations such as Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia as well,” said Dr Kiat Ruxrungtham, chair of Chulalongkorn University’s Chula Vaccine Research Centre. “We will even provide the vaccine to Pakistan,” he added.

He was speaking after his team began testing an mRNA vaccine prototype on crab-eating macaques. If tests are successful, Kiat believes human trials will start by early October.

“If things go as planned, Thailand will have its own Covid-19 vaccine next year,” he said.

I suspect Thailand will not be first past the post with this, so have to question why the "updates" on its progress, they themselves admit will be next year at least, keep cropping up several times a week.

Let me guess... the plan is to cook one up and then only administer it in Thailand, trying to lure in vaccine tourists?

At present, more than 200 potential Covid-19 vaccine prototypes are being developed across the world using different technologies.

I wonder if they will come in flavours like chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ?

Roll around in garlic.  Get lots of sun.  Drink less water.

Sleep in a closet.  It helps.

There will not be an effective vaccine. There hasnt been an effective Corona virus vaccine for humans in the 40+ years they've been trying to develop one.

My best advice is to stay healhty and take Zinc vitamin. And get your vitamin D levels checked out and supplement if necessary.

Thailand the hub of CV19 vaccine...

I always wonder if these guys actually believe what they say, as they stand up to make a solemn announcement in front of the cameras. They are after all (I think) intelligent enough & well-educated enough to know the truth.

If it was me, I'm sure I would - in the circumstances - dissolve into helpless giggles.

I heard from a very reliable source that vaccines turn people transgender.

"Kiat, meanwhile, said he planned several phases of human trials: the first will cover 100 Bangkok residents, the second will cover 500 to 1,000 people at medical schools both in Bangkok and the provinces, while the third will see the vaccine injected into some 5,000 test subjects."

There is no covid-19 in Thailand they keep telling us, how can you test it on humans here?

Guaranteed success I guess, the worlds first vaccine.

kinda difficult to get further from it with all the shared info out there

No they don't. They told us today there's 59 cases in hospital.

I guess you didn't read the news.

Snoop , no more . Nuff is enough,  bye .

I need to find another farlang forum ..

The level of  ignorant expertise is often frightening in TVF.

In basic  terms  try to understand two ways  that a safe "vaccine" can be made to have an effect.

*The introduction of a weakened  form of pathogen that is  incapable of causing infection but which the immune system reacts to by creating antibodies.

* The introduction of selected parts of a pathogen that are sufficient  to  cause  the immune system to  react and create antibodies to a pathogen that is not actually  present.

How very jolly decent of them ..

All they have to do now is boil up a vaccine .. No small feat as a successful vaccine against a contagious virus has only ever been done once before with Smallpox ..

Hi my little puppy, snapping at my heals, they're not testing it in the hospitals..............

Besides which the first phase....IF it passes the macaques test will not be until October, read the news

Vaccines can only be studied in places where outbreaks are ongoing. That's because the studies themselves rely on volunteers getting exposed to the virus to prove the vaccine actually works. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/vaccine-paradox-flattening-curve-stymie-chances-developing-coronavirus/story?id=70885643

Of course 99 percent of medical professionals say that we most PROBABLY will have a vaccine, and it looks very promising.  Not only one, but many vaccines.

But I digress, the Zinc champion knows better.
