British Pounds Stolen from Hotel

Thieves used a drill to open a safe in a hotel room and were able to flee with Pounds Sterling cash, worth over 200,000 Baht.

The Pattaya police were informed at 3.00 am on 18th April that someone had broken into room no. 403 of Tina Suite Hotel located in Soi Buakhao and some money was stolen.

On arrival the police met the victims; a 63 year old British national and his Thai wife waiting. The room was in a mess as the thieves went through everything to find valuables and ended with using a drill to open the wall safe. The thieves took the victim’s passport and over 200,000 Baht’s worth of Pounds Sterling. They left everything else including the drill.

This room is located on the 4th floor and police think that the thieves might have climbed through the back door since the victims left it unlocked.

The police will make a search starting from exchange booths for a possible arrest. The crooks took the victim’s passport, which means that they plan on using it for guarantee when exchanging money.

This news report suggests an 'inside job' and quarrel with girlfriend NOT wife!

SOURCE: Pattaya City News: April 18th 2007

200,000 Baht’s worth of foreign currency and other items stolen from Englishman’s Hotel Room in Soi Beokeow.

In the early hours of Wednesday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaleurmgiet from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Tina Sweet Hotel in Soi Beokeow after a report of theft from one of the Hotel rooms was reported.

Police arrived and spoke with the occupant of the room, Mr. Samuel Kirk aged 63 from England who lives with his girlfriend, Khun Sawalak aged 29.

She explained that the pair had gone out to Walking Street but Khun Sawalak returned first after the pair had a dispute during their night out. She returned to find her room had been ransacked and the room safe had been broken into to.

Inside the safe was around 200,000 Baht’s worth of UK Currency, two Kasikornbank books and Mr. Kirk’s passport along with other personal documents which were all taken.

There were no signs of forced entry into the room and Police believe the perpetrators had a key suggesting it could either be an “inside job” or a previous occupant of the room who had made a copy of the key. Police are now investigating further, as Mr. Kirk now counts the cost of his night out on Walking Street.
