The “Hero” quarantine camp based in the Udon Thani Rajabhat University campus closed its doors on Tuesday (June 9) after releasing the last group of 16 returnees from Phuket, who had isolated themselves at the camp for 14 days.

Asst Prof Charoon Thawornchak, the university’s rector, said two dormitories had been allocated for use as quarantine camps.

“People who underwent self-quarantine at this camp have proved to be socially responsible,” he said. “The university glad it could help with preventing the spread of Covid-19.”

Uthen Hakaeo, deputy chief medical officer at Udon Thani provincial health office, said people who underwent self-isolation at this camp will be sent a letter to submit to related authorities when they return home.

“However, everyone must wear a face mask all the time,” he said.

Ranida Luengthitisakul, chief of the Udon Thani Provincial Office, said the dormitories will be disinfected now that the quarantine camp has closed

“Udon Thani’s public works and town planning office will also conduct a survey on how the dorms can be improved and deliver the survey result to the university so it can make preparations before the new academic year,” she said.

The latest lot of 16 who underwent self-isolation were given a bag of relief supplies each and were seen taking pictures as they headed home.

Since May 2, 570 people have undergone self-quarantine at this camp.
