Crime Man Detained in Pattaya After Plotting Gold Shop Robbery
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 31-year-old man has been arrested by Pattaya police after he was found acting suspiciously outside a gold shop in a Lotus shopping mall, allegedly intending to commit a robbery after losing his wife’s rent money playing the stock market. Mr. Phoemphon 31, was apprehended at the North Pattaya shopping centre, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, at approximately 18:35 on 29 June. Officers recovered an air gun, a backpack, four shirts and two pairs of trousers believed to be part of a disguise used in the attempted crime. Police had been conducting routine patrols to ensure the safety of gold shops and banks within the mall when they noticed a man dressed inappropriately for the weather, wearing a thick coat, face mask and motorcycle helmet. He was seen loitering and intently watching the gold shop, raising suspicions that he was surveying the premises with malicious intent. Upon approach by officers, the suspect refused to comply with a search and attempted to flee. A struggle ensued in the middle of the mall, prompting officers and a helpful civilian to subdue him. During the arrest, officers sustained minor injuries. A subsequent search revealed the suspect was wearing multiple layers of clothing, four shirts and two pairs of trousers. Inside his backpack, officers discovered an air gun. The suspect was promptly taken to Pattaya Police Station for further questioning. During interrogation, Mr. Phoemphon admitted he had indeed planned to rob the gold shop but had hesitated at the last moment. His arrest occurred before he could carry out the crime. He confessed that the motivation stemmed from financial distress. He claimed he had used money given to him by his 22-year-old partner, intended for rent and baby care expenses, to invest in the stock market. Unfortunately, the market downturn left him penniless, leading to the ill-conceived plan to commit robbery. Police charged him with resisting arrest and obstructing law enforcement officers. Additional charges related to the planned robbery are under consideration. He is currently in custody pending legal proceedings. The suspect’s partner, seen holding their 7-month-old daughter at the station, was visibly distraught. Through tears, she explained that Mr. Phoemphon had only told her he was going to meet a friend and gave no indication of his intentions. She also noted that he had previously lived overseas with his mother and only returned to Thailand two years ago, during which time he developed a deep interest in trading stocks. Pattaya Police Superintendent, Pol. Col. Anake Srathongyu, praised the vigilance and quick thinking of the patrol officers, particularly Pol. Sub-Lt. Sawai Anurak and Pol. Sgt. Nuntawat Sriwiset, whose proactive actions may have prevented a serious crime. He added that the Pattaya Police remain committed to maintaining public safety through stringent patrols and high alert, particularly around vulnerable commercial areas. Do Phuket condos actually go up in price over the years?
In Thailand it seems supply is way more than demand so that keeps prices down, but if you buy at a good price you have a good chance of making money, i see that since covid prices and rents have dramatically increased (my condo and ones i see on Facebook marketplace). If you buy at top of the market i.e. off plan new builds, they will struggle to go up -

Accident Two Novice Monks Drown in Chao Phraya River During Secret Night Swim
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. An incident has shaken a local temple community in Ayutthaya after the bodies of two novice monks were discovered floating in the Chao Phraya River early morning on 30 June, days after they secretly went swimming with a group of friends during the night. At approximately 07:00, Pol. Lt. Manoch Ritthipul, investigative officer at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, was alerted to the discovery of two bodies near the pier of Wat Phutthaisawan in Samphao Lom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. Police investigators, forensic doctors from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital and rescue personnel from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association responded to the scene. The bodies were identified as 15-year-old Novice Nitikon and 13-year-old Novice Krisada, both found bloated and clad only in their saffron robes. No signs of physical assault were observed on the bodies. Their deaths were initially treated as accidental drownings. According to Mr. Uthis Boonchit, 64, a local resident who had been fishing on the opposite riverbank late on the night of 28 June, he witnessed some novice monks playing in the water near the riverbank but did not intervene. Upon hearing of the recovery of the bodies, he was convinced they belonged to the same group he had seen. Mr. Anuroj Haruthaithip, 55, the temple’s lay caretaker at Wat Kasattrathirat Worawihan, confirmed the deceased novices had been residing and studying there for approximately two months. When the boys went missing, inquiries were made with their original temple in Bang Pahan District, but they had not returned there either. A missing persons report was filed with local police. Initially, none of the other novices admitted to knowing their whereabouts. However, a breakthrough came when photos emerged showing a group of novices swimming together at the river pier on the night of 28 June. When questioned, six novices featured in the images eventually confessed to having snuck out for a late-night swim but claimed they had no idea when the two missing boys disappeared beneath the water. They admitted to staying silent out of fear of punishment. Police have documented the scene and will conduct further questioning of the six surviving novices to clarify the sequence of events. The bodies have been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pathum Thani for a full autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Relatives of the deceased have also been notified.
