I've noticed that one of the available visa's incorporating the same entitlements as a settlement visa is that of an "unmarried partner visa".

Has anyone ever applied for one of these and been sucessfull, or know of the acceptance rate for this kind of visa over that of the settlement visa.

What would help enormously, is if you could point out what country you are speaking of.

Sorry cdnvic, I was assuming that a few of the regulars knew where I was from, however it does give a little clue under my username (Herts, UK), but just for the record, ENGLAND.

In order to qualify for an unmarried partner visa, the usual maintenance and accommodation requirements need to be met, and, in addition, the applicant needs to demonstrate that they have been in a relationship "akin to marriage" for two years or longer. In reality, this means providing documentation which shows that the two parties have lived together, in any country, for a minimum of two years.

Hi scouser, thanks for that info. My g/f and I will have been in a relationship for 2 years come June. We can provide evidence of this as we have recently done so in order to obtain the recent succesful tourist visa. But we have not lived together for those two years. 6 months together at first followed by several visits. Is it vital for us to have lived together for those 2 years? or is maintaining a relationship in the way we do, considered? Thanks

i'am intrested in getting my thai g/f of six years to the u/k a tourist visa could tell me how long it took and what kind of documentation is needed.

is it easier going through a reputable visa agent or going to the embassy direct

Wasn't the unmarried visa set up for same sex relationships - obviously in the socialist paradise of GB sex discrimination of any kind is illegal so normal couples have to be able to apply on the same criteria, but has anyone actually been successful? And yes I would think that in the minimum two years you would have to be physically together in the same country for the vast majority of that time.

Satisfy these requirements with this documentation and submit to UK Visa Services . If you are lucky it'll take about 4 days.

Search this forum on the word 'visit' and 'tourist' and you'll find plenty of tips.

my G/F had unmarried visa i am prity sure you have to show you have been living together the whole time as in 2 years, we did it by me living here for a year then her getting a 9 month UK tourist visa (6+3) visa then me coming back here. documents like house rental agreement motorbike rental agreement in joint name and e mails. i went direct to the Embassey as earlier post says you have to be able to show you have the means to keep her and a place to live. good thing is she can legally work.

she now has indifinate leave to remain which she will probably loose as we live in Thailand now. All that shit for nothing still circumstances changed. any more info you need feel free to ask

Your sponsorship letter should include a brief description of your relationship to date, as well as an account of your circumstances in the U.K. You should also lay out the purpose of the visit and what you and your girlfriend intend to do at the end of it.

Read the Guide for Sponsors and provide everything they suggest and more.

The most common reason for refusal is not inadequate sponsorship but the G/F not providing enough supporting evidence that she will return to Thailand at the end of her visit.

do a search and you will find quite a bit on the unmarried partner visa .... I posted a couple of weeks ago to say my TGF was granted a two year settlment visa (unmarried partner) without any problems.

As one of the other posters said make sure you have your paperwork in order then it only takes 4 days. Rob's pinned example is a very good guide but if you want a copy of what I submitted then pm me.

Cheers eddie, I remember the post as I left a message of congratulations. We aslo found Robs post very helpful in putting together our application for a tourist visa, which we have since been sucessful with. The mrs will be coming to the UK in June.

I'm just trying to explore all the options available to us at the moment, should she decide that she likes the UK, and wants to come again. We may end up applying for another tourist visa, but we dont want to rock the boat just yet by going straight for the settlement. We also dont want to get married just to support a settlement application. In our eyes, this would be wrong. So I noticed that the unmarried partner visa was available, but after receiving several replys about having had to have spent 2 years together permanently, I dont see how this is possible.

Anyway, we'll get the holiday over with first come June, and then move onto the next step once she returns to Thailand. Thanks for your post.

You don't have to have spent 2 years together permanently, but, rather, to have been in a relationship " akin to marriage" for that length of time. In essence, this can be demonstrated in many different ways, but, underlying it all, you have to satisfy the visa officer that save for the lack of a marriage certificate, you, as a couple, would otherwise be perceived as being hitched.

I'm ready to apply. I'm an Italian national living in AU with my Thay GF. The scouser helped us to prepare all the docs and so far we are only waiting for a couple of things coming from Italy and Thailand.

My gf will apply to the British High Commission in Canberra, it should be done by the next week.

I'll keep you posted

Unless you've changed your question, when you jumped into this thread you asked about getting your g/f a visitors visa. The main conversation in the thread is about getting a settlement visa if unmarried (completely different requirements). You and your g/f satisfy must requirements given for a visitors visa and as you have right of abode in UK you can certainly visit.

The unmarried partner's visa is a form of settlement visa, so you should only apply for this if your intention is to settle in the UK. Additionally, it's not enough to have simply been in a relationship for two years; you need to demonstrate that you have lived together as a husband and wife would do.
