BANGKOK(NNT)-In addition to the announcement of Phase 4 restrictions being eased today, the government’s COVID-19 center has agreed on a resumption of international tourism within a " travel bubble " with precautionary measures in place to prevent another viral outbreak.

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) Spokesman, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin today revealed the government has approved in principle the reopening of the country to international visitors, but limited to those from countries where the outbreak is well controlled.

The concept of a limited reopening to countries within a "travel bubble" was proposed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and will start with business persons and international patients seeking medical services by appointment in Thailand. Visitors must hold travel insurance, have tested negative for COVID-19 prior to travel, and be easily located by the authorities once in Thailand.

The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, has ordered the establishment of sub-committees to consider other safety measures, to ensure Thai people will benefit from the reopening, and that there will not be another local outbreak.

"Visitors must hold travel insurance, have tested negative for COVID-19 prior to travel, and be easily located by the authorities once in Thailand."

The last words '''easily located'''.

- Does does that mean they have are free to move around from day of arrival but using an app/SMS system/e.mail address etc., whereby Thai authorities can easily contact them? Or?

favoring countries like China and banning countries like India.

Why would they ban tourists from India? They get more than a million per year which translates to lot of spending. And then there are the marriages:-)

Of course, now the Covid situation in India is serious they won't allow them, rightfully. China's in far better shape at the moment.

China is seeing an outbreak in areas of Beijing. Another military style lock down in those areas.

Does anyone trust China's figures?

Thailand rolling out the red carpet to China is the ultimate slap in the face to the world.

CCP will call it fake news.  Or, CCP will have it all under control in two weeks.  And then ToT will sing the virtues of the Chinese tourists...

Why will they? They released the news?

Not 'military style' at all. What's 'military style?' Alarmist claptrap, thats what.

An area of Beijing with a cluster of less than 70 people, which is well in hand, is the truth.

Sooner trust the Chinese than Americans. 29000 infections and 700 deaths so far today. Not good. That's all they admit too.

In accordance with the principle of putting the safety of the masses and health first, we have adopted lockdown measures for the Xinfadi market and surrounding neighbourhoods," Chu Junwei, a district official, told a briefing.

The district is in a "wartime emergency mode", he added.  Hundreds of military police have entered the now locked-down facility. Nearby transport links and schools have been closed.

seems like overkill but yeah, they are using miltary and wartime in the descriptions.

Thailand to trial “Travel Bubble” scheme to restart tourism

Four ministries have been developing a new travel scheme, under which citizens of countries which have managed to control the spread of COVID-19, or have low risk of infection, will be allowed to visit Thailand without the need to enter quarantine for 14 days.

Deputy government spokeswoman, Ms. Traisulee Traisoranakul, said Sunday that the so-called “Travel Bubble” scheme is a new concept in tourism, which is gaining popularity among countries which have managed to contain the spread of the contagion.

The scheme involves a bilateral arrangement between two low-risk countries, allowing their citizens to travel between them without being subject to quarantine.

Someone scoffed at me when I recently said we would soon be in a situation where people could travel here from China with no quarantine, but we would be subject to it. Now looks like we are headed to a situation where people from China can travel here with no quarantine and the rest of us not from China can't travel here at all, even if willing to put up with a quarantine.

I'm more worried about them letting americans in. Them, the Swedes and the Brazilians. But ESPECIALLY the problem americans. I wouldn't mind the Russians for now.

Agree, Americans incl. Brazilians are high risk.  I am not sure about Sweden, as far as I know Sweden count all corona cases and deaths unlike many other countries that count only the serious cases and only count death from that list.

Complete nonsense.  Countries with limited testing/reporting, and countries with totalitarian governments will get preference to countries who do massive testing and treatments.

Amazing Thailand
