You have answered your own question. If the Thai government gave a damn about its citizens they would have been concerted efforts to sort out road traffic deaths currently, as you say, 6000 so far this year. There are countless other areas where they could improve the overall health of the nation, they are not interested. Neither are they interested in rooting our corruption in the Police and Military. This is all about holding power and strengthening their own positions. They are in a cocoon and unaffected by what is happening to the economy. They don't give a damn about the man or woman in the street or the difficulties they face. 9 2

The booze bans were readily circumvented, I could buy alcohol at the shop in my GF's village any time I felt like it. I played golf right through the lockdown, which I certainly could not have done in Australia. Your son must live in Victoria Lacessit. I think they were the only place that banned golf. I live in Qld and have experienced very little restriction, apart from my cancelled OS trip, and the library being closed.

Yes, Thailand's tourism industry is mighty important to the country in general and the poorer people working in that industry. Yes, the Wuhan virus is a point of fear for the government. For obvious reasons, some very selfish. The best advice for Thailand would be to close the borders for Chinese. Lockdown is getting in force in China because of the second wave.

Plus all affilited business. South European countries like Spain or Greece are even more depending on tourism, having been hit much harder by the Chinese virus but are almost all open.

I currently favour a policy that pushes out Covid-19 on the entire world and only the strong survive. Just like we managed every plague since the beginning of time. But here in UK which is my home I have plenty of hobbies. I cut short my trip in March when CV19 was getting serious enough for the FCO to advise all Brits to return home. Since I've been back, there hasn't been a pub or restaurant open but I've hardly had a boring day, in fact some days I run out of time to do what i want to do. Boredom is all in the mind and sadly, a sign of little imagination........IMO, of course 1

Also these countries have gone into massive debt funding programmes such as mortgage holidays, reduced credit card interest, amnesties on people exceeding overdraft limits, furloughing staff etc This is because they care about their citizens and invest in them. That doesn't happen in THAILAND, Laos and others in the region who do not give a damn about their people or the hardships they are suffering. Your post is shallow and ill thought out as well as inaccurate. Also western democracies always have an eye on the electorate , the Thai generals dont suffer that inconvenience.
