Pornographic-cartoon websites to be closed

BANGKOK: -- Social Development and Human Security Minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham is pushing for the closedown of 250 web sites with pornographic-cartoon content.

"I will also refer this issue to the Royal Thai Police so that legal proceedings against people behind these web sites can start," Paiboon said during a meeting on safe and positive media.

He said dozens of thousand youths visited such web sites every day.

"These youths will obsess over pornographic cartoons and develop wrong perception about sex," Paiboon warned.

Yes they will develop the wrong perception that only cartoon characters have sex. We must not let this happen.

It is much healthier to get the right perception about sex the Thai way ... in the Honolulu Complex of Chuwit.

Are those 250 websites hosted on servers in Thailand? If not, they cannot close them as in addition they may be legal in the country they're hosted in. But they can obviously block access to them like YouTube ...who cares.

For the target audience the cartoons are as arousing as Playboy for its readers. Its not jokes, its porn.

I don't want the kids to be exposed, does anyone?

It's part of the bigger problem and I tend to be on the side of .xxx for all smut, including cartoons.

it is not an issue of porn. ..it is a issue of freedom of speech, freedom of the press. it is more complex than I

can explain. but essentially, it works out this way....

everybody has differences in opinions. as such, everybody has things they don't like. now, if everybody were allowed

to censored a thing that they don't like, what happens is - there will be no more things to read.

another thing...

if you decide to censor the item in question so that nobody gets to read it, ...is that fair to the people who are not

targeted for the censor in the first place?

the solution lies in making the parents responsible for the problem, not the entire society. if it is so important, then, make a law that penalizes the parents if their children are found with the material. ..for sure, the problem will stop. that is, if the kids love their parents.

if censorship is allowed to go to extremes, what happens is you will lose the concept of innovation. for innovation, you need open thinking. the sharing of ideas. censorship does just the opposite.

moral questions 101.

Anyone interested enough in wanting to view these supposedly banned sites can easily get to them through a proxy server. This government is pretty foolish in censoring the Internet like it is doing. It only succeeds in giving huge amounts of free publicity to banned content, and heaping negative publicity / scorn on itself.

Still, what more can you expect from a military junta? Stupid.... :o

There should be an award for hypocracy. The Thai government needs to worry about all of the BLATANT sex advertising on the streets of Thailand (not just in the touristy areas) before attacking the internet.

When will someone step up and accept that Thailand is a sex-selling country? I have been here for 15 years and have NEVER seen any real crackdown on prostitution or nasty gatoys dancing half naked on poles (within view of any passing tourist, including children). It's always someone else; no one in Thailand ever accepts any responsibility... narrow-minded hypocrits :o:D

It does make me laugh when the government close porno cartoon websites because they don't want the Thai youth to get the wrong perception about sex.

Yet any one of these youngsters can freely go along Ratchadaphisek past the long line of massage parlours. Surely this must give the youth the impression that sex for certain groups is only confined to massage parlours. :o:D

Given the woeful sex education (or lack thereof...) in the Thai school system, it seems a lot of the kids get their impressions of sexual conduct from porn movies / websites. Sad. :o

Thank you Galong. You saved me some typing as you are reading my mind.

Also most of the GO GO bars in Pattaya are owned by the the Patpong family and are co owned and at least "over seen' by the police.

I have a friend who owns a GO GO bar in Pattaya. he pays a reasonable monthly fee to the local police, that hasn't gone up in seven years.

When I'm there my buddy gives me a laminated card from the chief of police. I have only had to pull it out once when I was stopped while speeding with no helmet on my buddy's Harley.

Worked like a charm. The cop nodded his head and apologized for stopping me. Wish I could get one of those here in San Diego.

One time per month the some of the girls "volunteer" to go to the local station to "entertain" the boys in brown.

Curiously, one time per month the owner also hosts a ceremony in the bar during the day where all the girls come to feed the monks, give some donations and get blessings. It's the Nevada Bar By the way.

I got to participate in this around last Christmas as the women cannot hand plates to the monks I got to distribute the feast to them and help keep their plates full. I love spending time with the monks.

It's quite a site to see the monks sitting around the stage surrounded by beautiful girls chanting and throwing water around.

When I'm not with the girls I always spend a lot of time with the monks. I enjoy chanting and meditating with them, the monks that is.

However, I am totally disgusted by these bargirls, clubs and streets that are teaming with sex that boils over out into the streets for all to see.

The government should bust Mrs. Patpong immediately, ( that is unless they don't realize that she owns most of these places :o ) along with all these crooked cops. Then I could spend all my time with the Monks instead of only half of it.

The oceans of gorgeous girls are an absolute distraction. It's disgusting and must be stopped now.

How will I reach Nirvana in this life time surrounded by beautiful Thai girls.

BUDDHA HELP ME... :D

Now back to our regularly shedualed cartoons... :D
