Urc Allots $40m For Expansion

Universal Robina Corp., the food manufacturing arm of conglomerate JG Summit Holdings Inc., will spend $40 million this year to put up additional biscuits and wafers production lines in Thailand and Vietnam.

Net sales of the company’s international branded consumer foods dropped 3 percent in the first quarter of its fiscal year ending December.

Gokongwei said the drop was caused by the scaling down of operations in China and decline in Indonesia.

However, Gokongwei expects international operations to grow double digit this year with the turnaround of Indonesia and with Thailand and Vietnam contributing significantly to overall revenues.
