Straw berries from the north are very good!

Can they be purchased in Bangkok or only in the North? I've never had a delicious one in Bangkok. In Korean desert places, markets, etc. Even in Chiang Mai they need to put sugar in the strawberry fruit shakes. They are whitish.

  • I have found cantaloupes in Thailand pretty tasteless compared to the same kind of melons in Australia. Bland is a good description.

Yep, tasteless, dry and with the texture of a potato. There have been rare exceptions but not worth wasting the money

  • Agreed Thai melons other than watermelons are lacking in taste.

Oh dear! I don´t know where you guys buy your fruits. When I buy Cantaloupe or any other fruit I get a solid flavor and good taste.

Maybe it´s just that we have too many guys need to complain about Thailand again. Did you think that this was a subtile way to do it. Gotcha!

Maybe it's that you've never tasted a good cantaloupe. Not bashing Thailand. Get real

You are just living a much richer life than me.

Some fruits taste better in some places than others. The cantaloupe here isn't as good as Texas ones. mangoes here are top notch. Bananas here aren't as good as the ones we had in the states, which usually come from Latin America. Strawberries in New Jersey are better than the ones in Texas. Apples from New York and Washington states are the best I've had, with the exceptions of Fujis from Japan, which are very good also.

You've got to be kidding about bananas. The variety available in the USA is the Cavendish and it's pretty tasteless. Used to be Gros Michel, but the fungus makes that untenable. And there are a huge variety of absolutely delicious bananas in thailand. Far superior to what you can get in the States.

There is a variety of cantaloupe for sale occasionally at Makro. It's called Hami. I've never had a bad one. Sweet and delicious. Not only that but they are cheaper than the other varieties. Regularly 49 baht per kilo.

Hami is from China.

They are good,  but you get the toxins for free

There are other varieties of bananas available in the states. although limited. The Cavendish is used for a few reasons and tastes okay. I've had some here that are okay, maybe 4 different types, so I'll look to try more if you say there are some better.

Thai canteloupe is tasteless. Do not know about the Aussie ones but Pecos cantaloupe from West Texas are awesome. Something in the soil

45 years ago I worked in the oil fields in West Texas out of Odessa as a lowly rig hand and I remember well the pickup trucks selling cantaloupe on the side of the road at 5 for a dollar.  Sweet and juicy.  Just amazing how good they were!

I also remember buying a can of Beanee Weenie and a loaf of Wonder bread and putting them on the dashboard of the truck to get them warm for lunch.  But that is another story for another time... image.jpeg.666701154682189dca4db20252f33dbc.jpeg
