My nephew has lived in Hong Kong for 20 odd years. he is a QC lawyer in finance and runs his own company. Spoke to him last week about what he and his family will do , they will get out .As fore his clientes they are already  getting there money out he has already transferrd over 1.5 trillion  us dollars out of Hong Kong banks  to over seas banks. He said much more go GO OUT

I am not saying that any of the comments here are wrong it is just that there is much more depth to this than most know.

For over 5000 years the middle kingdom has struggled its way along through several dynasties and all of the attached subterfuge.  What we are witnessing here is the birth of the Xi Dynasty.  The people will follow because they do not know any other way.  They only respect strength and they know that whatever may happen that China will endure for many thousands of years more.

Two problems with the party system are that people can't get what they want on the agenda and you can't pick the PM. British people were always against mass immigration. A poll taken after Enoch Powell's "Rivers of blood" speech found that the vast majority of British people agreed with him. They didn't get what they wanted.

I've got no problem citizens of Hong Kong emigrating to UK. But those figures of yours are seriously misleading. Better to look at the median wage.

The reason is the difference between Hong Kongese and the other types of immigrants UK gets are that the Hong Kongese are smart, rich and share our values they will contribute something.

 

The reason China is butthurt is because they know this also many of the rich Hong Kongese own factories which would help UK to bypass the CCP which is great news for the British people.

I have contact with some friends in HK that own factories and from what I'm hearing it looks like they are very keen on the idea of moving to United Kingdom.

I am even happier to be corrected. I did a search for median income for hong kong and uk. But I got a monthly figure for hong kong that was low and a yearly one for uk.
