Charter Court judge seeks probe into handling of the Red Bull heir case

A Constitutional Court judge has urged Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to investigate alleged mishandling, by the police and the public prosecutors, of the Red Bull heir hit and run case, warning that Thailand’s justice system has been rendered meaningless, after the prosecutors’ decision to drop the charges against the suspect and the police’s failure to challenge that decision.

In his Line post to fellow jurists, Mr. Thaveekiart Meenakanit said that the fatal road accident, involving the Red Bull heir, Mr. Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, is widely understood by the public, but the fact that the suspect was spared prosecution, apparently because of his economic and social status, is unprecedented and incomprehensible.

He said the police and prosecutors should have litigated the case but, by failing to do so, they have diminished people’s trust in the two law enforcement organizations.

Again, far more details from the Bangkok Post stating that two more witnesses have been identified from security camera footage.

Both of them said they were driving behind Mr Vorayuth who was driving under the 60 km/h limit in the third lane, while the police officer, who was in the left lane, suddenly cut in front of his Ferrari.

I hope Mr Thaveekiart Meenakanit is near retirement age.

The only effective way of getting Red Bull man to face some sort of justice, would be an INTERNATIONAL outcry, and the public to stop buying the product.

Make it a big thing worldwide.

I hope the judge has alternative employment lined up, as he may soon find himself looking for a "bench" to sit on

remember a few months ago the judge in the south who shot himself while sitting on that bench ?

Good on him for saying what everyone is thinking, but the reality is that too much money has changed hands for the disgraceful decision to be reversed. It does show in the plain light of day though exactly what the justice system here is and how the rich and powerful are effectively immune from it.

Unfortunately the damage on the Ferrari does not support that he was driving under the 60 Km/h.  That would mean he was only driving at 37 mph for those from the US.  That damage is consistent with a higher impact speed.

It has been rendered pretty meaningless for a long time, well before this horrible man's case, unless, of course, you have exceptional wealth, in which case, the justice system is a dream.

Wealth = impunity.

In a nation where it's a tradition to incentivize the police to do a proper investigation and any judicial outcome is at the whim of a single judge who is bereft of oversight in a jury-free environment, exactly how much trust has been 'diminished' here?

Agree totally. Taking this 'upstairs' means that someone else has to fork out several hundreds of millions to counter the previous fee paid and accepted to make this all go away. Once it gets in the range of the GDP of a developed African nation, then all bets are off.

Im not an expert on cars but surely with with such advance technology the experts can check what speed the car was doing at the time of impact?

he also dragged the officer over 100 meters
(Bangkok post not linked)
when the TOTAL stopping distance for 60km/h is less than half of that at 45m for the "average family car"
not to mention how much better Ferrari brakes are compared to the "average family car" which braking distances are based on

according to braking distances and how far he dragged the officer
then that would put the car at over 100km/h
at very least he would be driving without due care and attention and would be causing death by negligence

it does not matter how many (paid) witnesses come forward
simple math and science says otherwise.

Of course you are correct.  Speed from crush and then impact damage and injuries to the policemans body will give you a definitive speed.

if that is so, then why did he run away for years?  An innocent man has nothing to fear, even here, as he is rich and connected.

I guess the evidence is long gone now, and didn't his family own the franchise for Ferrari in Thailand?
