Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen says to reveal president's 'skeletons' in upcoming book

(Reuters) - Michael Cohen, U.S. President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer, on Thursday promised to show how Trump cheated in the 2016 election with Russian help in an upcoming book titled "Disloyal, A Memoir."

"Trump had cheated in the election, with Russian connivance, as you will discover in these pages, because doing anything — and I mean anything — to 'win' has always been his business model and way of life," Cohen writes in the book's foreword, which was published online on Thursday.

The 3,700-word foreword does not reveal anything new about Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election, and it was not clear if the book would.

Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller last year concluded that Russia waged a major campaign to help Trump to victory in 2016.

Mueller did not find evidence of a criminal conspiracy between Trump's campaign and Russia, but he did detail extensive contacts between the campaign and Russian operatives.

Cohen worked closely with Trump for years before turning against him, most publicly in testimony to Congress last year prior to Trump's impeachment.

Cohen said he knows where Trump's metaphorical "skeletons" are buried because he buried them.

White House spokesman Brian Morgenstern responded by attacking Cohen's credibility.

"He readily admits to lying routinely but expects people to believe him now so that he can make money from book sales. It’s unfortunate that the media is exploiting this sad and desperate man to attack President Trump,” Morgenstern said.

Trump has called Cohen "a rat," and a liar, and Cohen said he faced repeated death threats from Trump supporters.

Cohen, 53, is serving a three-year sentence for tax evasion, false statements and campaign finance violations, the last related to payments to silence women who alleged affairs with Trump before the 2016 presidential election.

Cohen was released to home confinement in May given the risks of catching COVID-19 in prison, but then was briefly imprisoned again last month.

A federal judge last month ruled Cohen had been subjected to retaliation for planning to publish his book, and ordered him released again.

A lawyer for Cohen declined to comment.

If anything Cohen says is a demonstrable lie Trump could of course sue Cohen for defamation, but then that would entail the process of ‘Discovery’.

What's the difference between a garbanzo bean and a chickpea?  Trump has never had a garbanzo bean on his face.

He still managed to suck in the majority of those that cared to get off their butts and vote! I wonder has the voting public of America gotten any wiser after four years of Trump BS or are they all rednecks?

Cohen should make sure to leave evidence with the prosecutors so that they can send Trump to jail where he belongs.

As if ‘Abusing the power of Government to throw the author back in prison to prevent him writing his book’ wasn’t already a book seller’s dream.

Cohen alleges Trump took part in rather unsavory behavior in Vegas sex club that mirrors allegations of Trump’s behavior in Moscow.

Trump can of course bring a case of libel against Cohen if anything Cohen says in his book is a libelous lie.

It won't make any difference among the hardcore Trump minions who will blindly follow their cult leader off a cliff.  But among Trump's inner circle, e.g., family, friends,....his wife, it may prove more than a little embarrassing.  I'm just wondering when Melania will be filing for divorce.  In 2021 I'll bet, shortly after Trump loses the election.

Trump has so much skeletons, crimes and dirty deeds that delight authors by the sheer volume of materials. Almost 1 year after his inauguration as President, more than 4,500 English language books about him had been published compare to Obama of over 800 works in his first year in office.

Wouldn't trust either with a ten foot pole.

Care to mention one conviction! Please use credible sources for "Mr. Trumps"  conviction of crimes!

It is only reasonable given that he’s hiding behind Presidential immunity to come back to this question once that immunity is removed.

He’s certainly the subject of at least one Grand Jury, and has been named in court as a co-conspirator in the crimes for which Cohen was convicted.

She’s bought and sold and now finds herself humiliated beyond believe. Maybe the revised prenuptial agreement she forced Trump to sign in order to get her into the WH after the Storm Daniels <deleted> hit the fan allows it, but I doubt it.
I’ve no sympathy for her what’s so ever. Live with it.

Sure, but what does the fact that this swamp creature was trump's personal lawyer and close confidant for many years say about your guy?

PS. Don't worry, I do not expect an answer.

In his book Cohen has made allegations of Trump being involved in ‘golden showers’ at a Vegas sex club.

What prominent billionaire with the services of lawyers at his immediate disposal would stand for that without filing suit?

Right! Her love cannot be betrayed as there wasn't any.

Just like when a girl has an affair with a celebrity and after 20 years claims of being raped. Same pathetic illness.

Now I can't say that golden showers excite me one thing.. quite the opposite but what doe Trump his sexual practices have to do with him being a president.

The guy is incompetent and an idiot but i feel that his sex life should be his no different from anyone else.

His sex life shouldn't be an issue.  Unless he was the POTUS representing a political party who claims to be all about family values, Christianity, fidelity, conservatism.....you know, what the Republican Party used to stand for.  If that were the case, it would be gargantuan hypocrisy.

That just shows how boring Obama is.

It will be interesting to see how many times he is sued after the book is released if his credibility is that questioned.

Or will there be silence? Better to let sleeping dogs lie (sic) eh?

Actually, it wont be the loss of office that will bother Trump, assuming he loses later this year, which looks like a betting certainty. It will be the loss of protection against prosecution that will hit him hardest. Look for bank fraud (inflating values of his assets when applying for bank loans), tax fraud (broadly deflation of asset values when filing taxes) and election fraud (starting with the payments of hush money to the two ladies we have all heard about but also probably other stuff we have not yet heard about). And that is just for starters. As prosecutors pick at the scabs of what was the Trump presidency and his election campaign, they may well find collaboration with foreign powers - lets see. When the man is no longer in power, stuff will come out. And he may have broken the law while in office - not a far stretch given his knowledge of the constitution.

Remember you saw it all here first!

Well there is the small matter of the allegations being made by Cohen being disturbingly similar to alleged ‘Kompramat’ in the form of video recorded in Russia.

Of course it could be a coincidence, it could be a viscous lie (Trump can file suit) or it could be an indication of Trump having a history of this behavior.

It’s certainly something blackmailers could make profitable use of.
