Disgusting hospital experience

Featured Replies

Initially misled by staff about cost and then repeatedly lied to by a doctor who said I HAD to stay in when in fact it was not necessary. Paid 50% of the shockingly big bill just to get out. Anyone had a similar experience? Please advise/guide what steps could be taken now. They threatened telling passport control if I do not pay the other 50%. I believe there is a government agency that deals with overcharging. Anyone had experience of dealing with them? Or anyone know a good lawyer? Thank you in advance for your help.

  • no doctor can force you to stay in a hospital if you don't want to, they can sign you on a release form that protect them from lawsuits and than let you do whatever you want, how did you get into this

It seems you think we should all support you, the unknown newbie. But you don't provide any details. Maybe the hospital was right. Maybe you didn't listen. How should we know.

Undoubtedly private hospital, will try everything and everything to bump up the bill. Was in your situation years ago, just left and left in bed ,excuses after another,..ripped off the pads, got to see hospital director ,told him I'm going to police  ,...bill reduced   half price

see the consumer complaints dept  at local town hall

Difficult to say anything regarding your case as you don't give any details. I have not heard of such government agency, but any claim is likely to be pointless anyhow. The core issue here is that people have gotten the wrong idea that medical services are cheap in Thailand, they are not. Right now getting treated in France would cost you less, while the places like Bumrungrad and Bangkok Hospital will charge you as much as hospitals and doctors in Geneva.

Also @Sheryl recommends a minimum heath coverage of 3 Million Baht for those who stay here.

These are serious allegations. If you have proof about the administration giving you a wrong quotation and you can also show beyond reasonable doubt that your extended stay was unnecessary, then you have grounds for complaint and may win the case. If not, you don't have a leg to stand on (no pun intended).

Thanks for your replies. The doctor did not force me to stay but made it seem like I had a life threatening, highly contagiuos disease and so must be kept away from the public; the nurses added to my fear because they could not get out of the room fast enough. Disgraceful !

Thanks for info about hospital costs in Europe. Yes, Thailand not cheap now.

So which disease are you supposed to have? You didn't publish your name so you don't disclose any personal information.

In the meantime please stay locked up in a room with your highly contagious disease. Thanks

I do not expect everyone to support me, just like to know what can be done about it based on others' experience.

1. Apologize to the hospital staff.

2. Maybe try to negotiate. Negotiate = talk to each other. Don't just walk away and don't be rude.

3. Pay your bill.

4. If you think you paid too much get a lawyer and complain.

Refuse to pay.

Yell and swear at the staff.

Demand you get treated for free, as you are no doubt a miserable jerk

I am not trying to do a runner on the bill. Insurance dealing with my claim.

What disturbs me is the lies. Doctors should not lie.

a too had a disgusting experience last week

though the bill wasnt huge, I asked if my insurance covered the treatment, they confirmed to me both on the phone and at reception, before doing a uturn afterwards saying my insurance didn't cover it and asked me to pay. I walked out refusing to pay and they called me offering to halve the bill.

government hospitals are the way to do it. these private hospitals should be named and shamed for the scams they perform

You do not say  private  or govt.  Yes private will rip you off   no mercy  many many complaints, and more.  tell them to go swing, they cannot do anything...ripped many a person off big time

Thailand's own health ministry has called these bastards...they are obliged to display their charges on admission,no notices  ? they themselves are committing a criminal charge,  ask them for explanation

What took you to hospital in the first place, & what treatment did you receive?

How much was the bill?

So that's it, your insurance is dealing with it.  That should be the end of the matter.

In that case, let insurance sort it out, they have whole departments that dispute excess charges.

Without knowing what procedure/illness you went to hospital for, its a little hard for even a doctor to determine if you were lied to. or over serviced.

Any initial costing or quote would be subject to variations, complications etc. A good chance you signed a document on admission agreeing to such.
