Students 'being watched' as pro-democracy movement spreads to schools

Students at schools in different parts of the country wore white ribbons and raised the three-finger salute during the national anthem in the morning as a symbol of resistance against dictatorship.

The videos of the students were posted on Monday (August 17) and quickly went viral. They were retweeted on Twitter several times.

However, the students claimed that they were later monitored by groups of suspicious-looking people whose hair was short like that of soldiers.

Academic and online political activist Akkharaphon Thongpoon published information of Woranari Chaloem School’s students in Songkhla province where students were stripped of their white ribbons before entering the school while in the neighbouring school of Mahavajiravudh Changwat Songkhla School, the activity continued without interference.

PSU Wittayanusorn Suratthani School and Hatyaiwittayalai School are also facing similar monitoring and the students were reportedly supervised by the school’s administration.

Meanwhile, students of Si Kranuan Witthayakhom School in Khon Kaen province posted photos of police officers allegedly coming to watch over the situation and students in Benjamarachutit School in Ratchaburi province spotted a group of suspicious-looking people monitoring their activity.

I see the Covid emergency decree excuse being extended and lots of additional youth detention centers in the planning. At some point though the bubble for Prayut and friends is going to burst.

Old proverb that slow learners seem to have to learn in each generation in authoritarian societies where deference to the status quo can be enforced by violence. The rich can get away with murder while the poor are criminalised for speaking truth to power.

The nail that sticks out  will be hammered home

Scandalous !

What right have these bullies got to hang around, or inside, educational facilities for  Thai students ?

In Singapore students are just being watched... usually by other students... with cameras... in toilets...

interesting times indeed. The regime has lost it's greatest prop, and they're scrabbling around, if you ask me. Not that I care, I'm just a spectator, not my country. But when my SO is coming out with negative opinions, her who is about as pro Thai as you can get, you have a problem.

Are we allowed to use the D word yet  ???

Let's just hope the genie really is out of the bottle this time.

the clock is ticking on the dictatorship and all the things that go with it, i suggest they start treating the general population with some respect, look at belarus.the goons will be watched from afar and then all the sticks will be pulled from under them except of course the fascist brethren in beijing who will spring to assistance and make you another close friend and ally.but thats the game plan obviously.when foreign investment leaves except for the brethren and the xenophobia pushed from govt makes even fewer tourists come  its very thin ice so act now stop the violence and intimidation before millions come out and stop it for good.this time the troops may think twice before they massacre innocents as they did in 70s and 90s social medias out there and theres nowhere to hide.west and jap/korea say no it means no.look at belarus ,only xi will back up this regime, enough said.

So the students have enough of their military democracy (dictatorship), good luck with that.

Don't forget the 2010 "incident"  where at least 90 died and many thousands injured.

10 years ago was still very different. Nowadays with an extremely prevalent social media, all phones with cameras, drones, etc, it's very hard to get away with anything. It gets uploaded straight away and can be viewed by billions the world over.

There is a pattern throughout history of oppressed people rising up against the oppressors, and students are often the vanguard.

The students are taking photos of the police and military watching them and posting those pics on social sites. Outstanding!

The elite won't go down without a battle, that's for sure; it's all Harry Potter and roses at the moment. Ha! Not my battle, I'm a keen spectator though, beats any soap opera.

My village has always been politically indifferent, no one got involved in the days of reds versus yellows. But now they are all angry, with Prayut, with Boss, the police, the Covid response, I've never seen them this agitated before.

come on   !  .......... back to class ....  you've had your little break outside, it's time to go inside and learn.

It's only a matter of time before change is seen. It might be this year or the next, it might even be when the younger generation mature to adults, but it will happen.
The fact that people are being watching because they want democracy says it all

Welcome to Burma v2. Version 1 has been pretty good for the last 58 years and version 2 is now been exported next door.

saw exactly the same action 10 years ago in China, police all over college/high school and even some universities..... copycat

Pathetic,  monitoring kids. Scary 3 finger salute... good on those kids who had enough of militairy rule to photograph those silly people in uniform (or in civilian clothes but sporting a rather silly haircut)

Stream it all live to the internet, 24/7. As long as the CCP firewall hasn't been booted up here, publicity and fear of losing face is the only way to get anything done. I doubt they'll get as far as getting rid of the usurpers without violence, though.
