AlfHuy
Good morning, Just out of curiosity. A friend of mine is dating for a few months a Thai Doctor. She is a Radiologist, working for the government. I asked my mate how much a high profile job like this makes. He told me that he has no clue and that she is always moaning about the stress, competition and low pay. I understand that to become a Radiologist, you must hold a medical degree and doing a Master. This type of qualification would be a high flyer in Europe. He thinks that she only makes probably around 100k Baht a month because not working in a private hospital. Seems quite low, considering the years you have to study to become a Physician Radiologist.

PoodThaiMaiDai
My ex-TGF has an English degree and was a "salesperson" working for a Japanese company near Bangkok. She earned 40,000 baht a month, plus free phone and they paid for fuel and tolls. She quit for a similar job but as the "sales manager" for a Thai company near the same location and now earns 50,000 baht with the same perks. She does quite well. Easily, as I manage all that on less than 50k/month. If she's renting the house out, that'll probably pay for itself. Most of my spending is on women, I suspect she doesn't have that problem. Without the women my spending would be around 25k/month. Edited August 24, 2020 by BritManToo

At my daughter's school, I know one couple, both Doctors. They have 2 kids at private school. They own a villa with tennis court. Probably 20-30Million Baht. You don't pay that with a 50k salary and no bank would give you tenth of millions if you earn this kind of money, even if you are a DR.

They won't be working entirely in government hospitals. The way they amass money is 1st job government hospital, 2nd job private hospital, and 3rd job clinic. I've known a few dentists playing the same game, 3 jobs isn't unusual. Your pals gf is dating him in the hopes he will replace her having to work the other 2 jobs. Popular Post CLW
Her salary is so low because she's working for a government hospital. However, government workers have a few benefits which I don't know in detail but many people who I ask said they are good. Such as early retirement, good pension, free or discounted education for children, good conditions for bank loans. etc...

I would rather earn a few hundred thousand a month and not having early retirement and the rest.
Popular Post OneMoreFarang
As far as I know many don't have to pay for the university under the condition that after university they will spend a couple of years in a public hospital. I am sure others know more details. And I confirm 2nd and 3rd jobs in private hospitals and clinics are normal.
cyril sneer
its possible that a chunk of her wage is taken because she needed to pay to get the job, this can be reduced by being a gik

My ex-has zero debt except the 11000 baht a month for new car (she gets a new one every 3-4 years) She also has her mortgage paid off, but uses the 5000 baht rent income for her other expenses. Her condo is very nice but a little small. She pays 9000 baht (Pathum Thani) near DMK.

pauleddy
I have Dr. friends both here and in the UK. Radiologists do other stuff, not only look at XRays. They have to interpret "sliced" brain scans, and also guide tubes and wires entering the body. Some do even more complex stuff with ultrasound and fibroscan. It takes at least 6 years to be a consultant or a "staff", but sometimes more like 8 or 10. I once had a very fine crack in my shoulder that even the bone doctor missed, which is why XRays go to a radiologist for "reporting" I'm sure that Alf is right. Senior doctors can earn well above 200,000 a month. Most of the private hospitals here are owned by either one doctor or a consortium of 5-6 doctors and a lot of the hospitals are "joined" as a group. It is well-known that Mr Thaksin owns, or did own, one large private hospital (even tho he was not a medic). Every time I pop into Bumrungrad I see either a red Ferrari or a yellow Lambo in the Drs' parking spots. Eddy 1
