I wonder what they'll do when every day is already a public holiday. Not far from that now.

The money would be freshly printed by the Thai central bank, following the Western examples.

 

The result would be a rapid depreciation of the baht, which everybody has been hoping for.

 

International tourists would then come back in droves, and the Thais could go back to work...or maybe not...

Civil servants will benefit while everyone else will stay at work, I know many people who worked the last Fri/Mon holidays, while only the chosen few got to play.

That’s one of the reasons why Thailand will never be a 1st world country, along with ones like Japan or South Korea! I remember the governments funny vision pre-covid to become a high income country within the next 10 yrs!???? The Thai “chivid sanook” mindset may be chilling (and I enjoy it, as I am not dependent on their economy), but it’s disastrous for their competitiveness.

A really strange and unsustainable idea. More holidays will only make workers poorer by moving money to the rich in the country. There are only two things that can increase Thailand's economy and that is to increase exports and in every way work to get more foreign currency. None of this is supported by this idiotic proposal.

This would make sense in an economy where people were still working but not spending (which has never happened in the entire history of economics).

The reason people aren't spending is because they aren't working or their wages have taken a nosedive. Good to know the disconnect between the government and its people hasn't improved one iota in the four years I've been here.

Think you will find there are 3 things first 2 as above and lastly remove the buffoon's in charge and get people who actually know their <deleted> from their elbow into these positions, wont hold my breath...

They do realize that in the real world companies commit themselves to deliver on time/perform services to a timeline?

 

The creation of these holidays, to appease the tourism sector (for that reason alone), can potentially cause untold problems to industry. Perhaps they should try to run a company and be ready to pay double time to those who are already committed. In certain cases, companies who have maintenance crews out all over the country will not be able to do their jobs until the 'customer' returns to work after their holiday. As an example.

 

Crazy, irresponsible thought process IMO.

According to the last couple of 4 day Songkran holidays the seaside resorts were doing  well hotels full ( the ones open ) restaurants well attended these extra holidays seem  to be  working along with the big Government discounts given

Funny that they dream up giving a holiday to all those people who are out of work. I'm sure they appreciate it.

As Thailand likes to be #1 in everything and first to do things I can only see this as a step to make Thailand the world leader in the 3 day working week !! ????
