Pattaya: China's state news agency calls resort deserted and Thais have no money

A report by the Thai arm of the Chinese state news agency Xinhua published pictures and a brief one paragraph report about the desperate state of Pattaya.

They said the pictures were taken on Tuesday this week.

They showed empty deckchairs, an almost deserted beach and sea.

And a lonely farang looking at his phone.

Pattaya was once thronging with Chinese especially the beach that became a drop off point for sea tours, notes Thaivisa.

Now Xinhua has said that the closure of the airspace and the borders have left Pattaya deserted and the Thai people with no money.

Xinhua is the biggest news organization in China and one of the biggest in the world in terms of the number of correspondents.

Thai media Kom Chad Luek carried the story and provided a link but made no mention of where it came from in the body of their brief report merely mentioning that it was "foreign media".

That says enough about the world we are living in...

Perhaps the CCP is trying to discourage its citizens from going to Thailand, as a fair few dollars get shifted out of China that way.

CCP possibly saying....."go back when we own it!"

CCP tells the truth for the first time should be the headline. The Thai Government hasn't realised what damage has been reeked on cities like Pattaya and its workers mainly from Isaan. It will never fully recover and the mayor is eyeing up changing Walking Street into a shopping mall so the character of Pattaya will be gone forever. I remember taking my 6 year old daughter for a walk down Walking Street she just loved all the pretty lights and noise of Walking Street. I probably had different thoughts about it.

yes they used Pattaya beach as a boarding point by rip off speedboats to get to Koh Larn - they never actually stopped on Pattaya beach or used any of the deck chair services

Pretty accurate.

Amazing that Kinarree and Crystal Gogo were both packed yesterday. I guess the people here don't care about the beach

Sad state of affairs when an article like this one only evokes China bashing

How did they know he was lonely? Asking for a friend!

Are you posting this utter rubbish in forums about holiday towns all over the world. I was sent a photo about San Antonio today with nobody there. My thoughts were oh well the sun will still be shining there next summer. Can't wait to go back

Pattaya has died off since COVID came into play as there are no global tourists anymore. I was over there last week and the beach was like a ghost town. Some bars have the usual barstool locals who know everything about the world but funny thing is they never leave the bar.  lol

Did they also mention who created this misery in Pattaya and the rest of the world ?

Maybe this not so tactful statement will spur Thai leadership to build a middle class.  Something the country needs for the sake of its on sustainability.

Of course China bashing is totally unwarranted isn't it? Even without knowing the true origin of the Covid pandemic, I and countless millions of others are a tad pi55ed off. The systematic cover up, the disappearing of scientists trying to reveal the true potential of the said virus and the pressure applied to the WHO to tag along with the lies they were spouting, all to save face for the CCP, is enough in my book to justify a little bit of China bashing.

Isaan is doing quite well, the markets are very busy, Makro is still busy but Tesco Lotus was down a bit. Even our local bars are surviving, although many customers are stuck overseas. Oil workers who support their Thai families!

Excellent, please also report zombies, looting, ebola, anything to keep the Chinese away.

Yeah, that's what they said in the mid 70's when the GI's departed and look what happened.

Thai people connected to tourism may have little money but the national coffers are literally overflowing with the folding variety simply at huge record levels

Are you refering to systematic cover-up, wait-and-see and tweet'ed recommendations to ingest cleaning agents by that [redacted] running the US of A? Your book probably needs a better information source than Fox & Friends

Please for the sake of balance give us some examples of good chinese policies that contribute to the greater good Of humanity?

  • Popular Post

How ironic - the Chinese caused the problem in the first place.
