Hi, I will soon have a fortnight off work and thought I would like to take my bike to a national park and do some camping. I ride a hybrid, wheels are 29mm. It handles light trails well enough and so I wondered if there's a park which is good for cyclists who don't mind coming offroad and doing light trails. As long as it is relatively flat, should be fine. Something around 5-10kms day would be enough.

 

Any suggestions are welcome.

28 - 29 mm tyres will struggle in mud.

And also rocky roads.

 

I definitely felt happier with my 35 mm tyres on the rougher roads, but my buddies coped OK with 25 mm tyres through weeds and mud and gravel on our plantation adventure that you might see earlier on in this thread.

The hybrid flat handlebars should make it easier to cope with rougher roads, and you'll want to be using flat or cage pedals rather than clipped-in, just in case you have to unexpectedly put a foot down.

By soft trails I meant the ones I do at the back of my house, mainly gravel, or light grass. Not had a problem yet unless hard braking required. SOft mud, no chance, not a mountain bike but as long as the surface is solid, it's fine. I am assuming some national parks are much flatter than others and have worn trials through the grass, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of. I know there is one national park noted for this and has savannah like views but can't for the life of me remember what its called.
