State of emergency set to be extended through October

A Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) panel on Thursday said the government should extend the emergency decree for another month. The decision will be discussed by the CCSA next Tuesday before being considered by the Cabinet on Wednesday (September 30).

The current emergency decree will end on September 30.

The panel said an extension was needed to ensure cooperation and faster work in combating the virus crisis by government agencies.

The CCSA highlighted the surge of Covid-19 infections in neighbouring Myanmar, where the daily number of new cases has soared above 500.

The CCSA said it will also discuss plans to open the country to foreign travellers under the Special Tourist Visa (STV), which should be available soon.

They might as well extend it a year at a time. We all know where this is heading. I don't think they'll ever lift it.

  • The "controla virus" agenda looks like it will be dragging on for a while yet. ???? ????   Obviously the statistics just released by CDC mean nothing (apart from close to a 100% survival rate

Obviously the statistics just released by CDC mean nothing (apart from close to a 100% survival rate!) Taken from report:-

So much for the 1 October STV.

Might as well just state borders will be closed for a year as they have no clue how to open back up.

They already have, by announcing their 2 week quarantine 90 day Tourist VISA scheme would run until September 2021.

I don't interpret it that way.

I think what they're saying is this special visa will be offered for one calendar year, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't be tweaked in the meantime, and potentially become quarantine free in the coming months. Besides, I doubt there will be many takers if they continue it in the present form beyond the end of this year. Other countries are starting to loosen their quarantine requirements too.

A lot depends on the global situation and when the "big reopening" happens. No one currently knows when that will be, but I can't imagine it will take 1 or more years. The economy will collapse if that happens.

this is going to get so messy. who made these decisions in the first place to get our world into this absolute cluster f.

let it rip already for the sake of humanity. we cannot take much more of this. the dire consequences being ignored are staggering to say the least.

That was based on State of Emergency ending 30 September so STV starting 1 October. Extend state of emergency as per the OP news, no STV

Edit: sorry, I see what your saying now, yes no-one in their right mind would do STV so we're all screwed until September 2021

The UK, for arrivals from Thailand.

Singapore, for NZ and Brunei passport holders arriving from these countries.

That said, I don't expect any major changes for several months at least, anywhere in the world and it could also go the other way as well, as Malaysia did a couple of months back when it went back to facility quarantine from home quarantine. The quarantine system is likely to remain in some form for at least 3 more months and probably up to 6. But speculating what happens in the future won't get us anywhere...things change all the time.

He interpreted the quarantine requirement as remaining until 30 Sep 2021 based on the STV being issued until that date, but my conclusion is that one can't interpret it that way, since it's quite possible (and in fact highly likely) the STV requirements will be amended over time.

The point I was making is that this STV will only be issued for a period of one year, meaning it's not intended to be a permanent new type of tourist visa.

The UK where they just announced pubs must close by 10pm?

And all gatherings of more than 6 totally banned.

I'd say that indicated getting worse, not getting better.

I quite like France, Spain, Italy which I often visited, and was thinking of buying a house in France earlier this year, before the madness started.

The poster that you replied to, was talking about quarantine, not about closing pubs. Pay attention please.

Do you really want to travel to a country imposing those kinds of restrictions?

Thread is about 'state of emergency' ........

I can live in a country with closed borders, but I don't want to travel anywhere with punitive restrictions on living my life.

RIP Thai Tourist Industry.... if they keep only the STV in place for coming high season .

So nice to see picking nits is still alive and well on TV.

Predictable the SOE would be extended, despite Thailand having one of the lowest COVID-19 infection rates. Prayut can see the lid would come off if it wasn't, a lot of angry young Thais in Bangkok and elsewhere.

Psst. If you don't test people, you'll have 0 percent. And a few positive patients might not even be mentioned, it destroys the good looking result.

MTGA. Make Thailand Great Again. Get rid off the soldier who plays politician.

Oh boy! More emergency! Just what we need!

Yet people are still speculating with these imaginary time limits and scenarios.

How does anyone know?

It could wind up very quickly.

Australia is looking like its well on the path to an end of it all.

Do you expect places like Australia will just sit on their heels for years on end,

ruining the economy?

watching suicides go through the roof..

just for the หell of it?..

And if Covid free in the next month or so?

It seemed the Aus prime minister was snapping out of it for a moment,

but it seems he has crawled back into his box again.

maybe told to "belt it" from international power entities?

Anyway, the doom and gloom negativity and BS on here and other places is just incredible.

I really dont understand what people get out of it.

Yes, we have "sad sacks" in Australia who have never been on a plane, so of course they are jealous of anyone who actually has A LIFE!!

They wouldnt mind if the world is locked down for xx years.

doesnt effect them!

But even people who were actually once travellers themselves, saying no travel for 6months..1, 2 years?????

I've even read idiots on here claiming there will be no international travel for 5 years.

How anyone can come to these conclusions is beyond me.

Heres my prediction:

There will be mass rioting everywhere in the world if this BS is allowed to go on for another 3 months....

The people who crave an actual life will be out lynching these fools and cowards who want to keep everything locked down forever..

All for the sake of a slightly worse than average flu.
