Since You Joined Bedlam...

Featured Replies

Do you still post in the other subforums? Just breezed through general and a few other subs, and noticed few Beddite posts in any.

I found some new threads interesting, but for me most are rehashes of things I have read or posted about before.

Just wondered what the inmate take is on this.

Interesting question , JET.

Prompted me to check my recent postings.

Survey came up with 17 in the real world and 8 here from the first page.

It should be remembered that the raison d'etre for this site is sharing info

on how to gain entry and live in Thailand.

The same questions will come up again and again and......

Sometimes , when my meagre knowledge would suffice and the "wise

ones" remain silent (probably from newbie fatigue) I even answer them.

Apart from my perception that the loony-bin now makes ones mouth open

wide , it is really now just for fun and it is unreasonable to expect anything of

substance.

One must wade through an enormous amount of banality outside to find the

occasional item of interest but if you find yourself psychologically unable to

do this you might as well load up the pick-up with M16's, ammo, canned

goods and Jim Beam , marry your sister (or your brother if he's better

looking) and head for the hills.

I just can't wait for Mondays to look at the Pattaya news forum, oh what a joy it is to see lifes carnage all in one weekend.

And then theres the news clippings, you don't have to wait for Monday, there's something new every day, corruption, censorship, poverty, inhumanity and bus crashes, all in one neat little country.

I've only been a tv member for 7 1/2 months and already can see the repitition of topics, sometimes useful as situations and opinions change. It's not just the topics that repeat but also the posts on those subjects.

Libya posts a piece about a guy getting shot in soi khaw noi.

Inevitably there'll be a reply like "Another fart from Thailand's bunghole of Pattaya".

Someone posts a piece like "It really irritates me the way the Thais drive the wrong way down the highway at night without lights on".

Then someone will reply "You don't have to be here, if you don't like it go back to your home country".

Somebody happens to mention a new block of beer bars on second road.

Then you'll get the "Move them all out to the boonies is what I say, move 'em to the boonies" replies.

You could almost run a competition predicting the replies just from the topic title. :D

I'd guess I post about 50/50 Bedlam and open forum as I like to add any advice or experience for all to ignore or whatever. But Bedlam, with it's freedom of subject matter, is more fun and is a more unsanitised insanity rather than the sanitised version outside. :o

:D Ya, you all have about the same thoughts as I do, except you're much kinder, FS.

I have posted on others, but seems to be a harsh world out there these days. i was rather upset about a few posters, whether trolls or not, getting dragged through the mud for asking advice about the Thai GF, her family, the buffalo, buying a house, etc.

I agree with you too, Phil. The inevitable diatribe always seems to follow, often by the newer, friskier members. Do you think I'm getting old? Maybe needing Botox for the brain or something.

You're right, Robski, I should read the news page more.

Or I could start a new thread in General: One two, wash puke from shoe, three four close da bar, five six pick up chicks...The last times I opened something there, I got blasted for being trivial. Maybe, "My Thai husband's family have locked me in the shed but feed me, left me my laptop and maintain my Inet connections; should I try to escape?", "Help, me no can speek English no more", "Just finished my house and now the karaoke pubs have moved in". Guess I cannot, because they are not true.

aww, I think I start to grow weary. :o

Please, please, pleeeeaaasseeee......not another "the real reason for bedlam" thread!

I actually start discovering some interesting forums in the real world where I never really looked into...there's a lot of stuff on computers and also the support forum is much more interesting than I ever thought....

And I really liked the one about the cat placenta :o

I gotta admit I am always attracted to the long threads that get closed. It's hugely entertaining to read through the development and try and spot the initial spark that starts the conflagration.

Ooooh, you do have time on your hands. :o

usually revolves around:

1) Its my right to own a gun

2) anything to do with the R**** Family

3) Why can't we question the moderator?

I spend most of my time in the Chiang Mai forum and flick back to here to see if that BAS%$#D suiging has made off with the last word again :o

I will also hit the "see new posts" button every now and again but not often get involved.

I am sure that the same themes of Visa, Girlfriend, buying a car/house/motorbike come up on a regular basis similarly to the way the same posts do the recycle duty in "jokes make my day" but because you first joined when it was called Siam Visa and everyone's letters were done with dip pen on vellum and delivered by Royal Mail it probably makes sense that you have seen them all before.

If I have a thread that I really want to find out what people think then I am posting them in Bedlam but that is becuase 1) I tend to respect the views expressed here much more than in the open forums and 2) it tends to remove the clutter of garbage posts.

Agreed but it is interesting to see how those subjects get introduced into a thread about growing turnips in Issan.

btw you forgot:-

4) bg's

5) pirated software

The other crap that drags any thread down is America-bashing and that happens with monotonous regularity across the board. There's an awful lot of people out there that consider each and every American is personally responsible for American foriegn policy.

You forgot the bargirl threads that used start out like:

Poster 1: I prefer to use exterior paint in the bathroom because it holds up to moisture better.

Reply: Good idea. Does your family know you married a whore?

Everything used to become a bargirl thread.

:D

Now that was funny. :o

This is the first time I can recall Vic making a joke.

It isn't..... but it is far less subtle than the others.... I didn't say so earlier as my net connection died on me, but it was worthy of more than a :o

That one was 100% true. I could not make that up! :o

I regularly pop my head into the General Forum, the Pub, the Computer section. Bedlam is my first stop usually, along with another forum that doesn't exist.

Other than that, my visits to other forums are sporadic at best. Usually if I see something interesting in the "view new posts" i may take a gander, and every now and then reply, if the interest grabs me. Sometimes I'll have something to say. In that respect, I do so much in the respect that Farangsay mentioned in the first reply, but it is rare that somebody else hasn't replied properly yet.

BTW, OFF TOPIC but:

I haven't had much time lately. Between working like a dog lately and relaxing to Tom Waits, I've not visited much the past week, nor will I the next few. But I'll be back when I have more time. Or if I ever choose to take a day off.

Feels good to be working again.
