Stop quarantine for foreign tourists in December, demands ATTA chief - wants Thailand open to 100,000

Why don't we start slowly, say open some of the borders first? I still think if we open with a large amount of people first  that  maybe a bridge too far. Open up slowly, a amount you can control without killing all us old folk off. Remember Thailand has not seen covid 19 like other countries.

Being stuck outside , It would be great to get back to my family,

BUT,

In the typical way thailand thinks, they seem to be completely ignoring the facts they need planes to get them there, and with no planning way in advance, the airlines will not start operating without guarantees of at least filling the planes with more than 10% passengers

I was told this afternoon by an Ozzie normally resident in Thailand but hasn't been able to return to LOS that Thai has been advising callers here in Australia that they will start two way flights Bkk - Sydney - Bkk, half the total number of daily flights, half the total seats occupied, on 2 Dec 2020.

It is inevitable that this will happen.

The fantastic job Thailand has done, and the fear it has driven into the population is going to make it very challenging to open the no quarantine floodgates, but it will happen.

Just look at that Egyptian soldier fiasco...and that was 1 case. When 100 cases start showing up every day, will be the real test. Shut her down, or earn to live with it?

Anyway, Trump and his wife have it...so there is always that...

"Shut her down, or earn to live with it?"

Deliberate typo?

So say 100,000 a month (not that he did lol) amounting to 1.2 million a year which equates to just 3% of tourism arrivals in 2019

Can they not see through their rose tinted googles its a drop in the Andaman sea

They need to make that 1 million arrivals a month to revive the tourism sectors

Not in favor of blanket opening and elimination of quarantine.  Everyday TV articles relate new cases of Covid found in persons in quarantine.  Just think if all of these cases had NOT quarantined and how many would/could be/have been infected by them.

No one can force tourists to come here. Open the floodgates and they'll come, but this will depend on the state of the economy back home, restrictions faced upon returning home and their personal financial situation.

Welcome back the next lock-down.. when the infection spreads to the locals again, then into every workplace and family home.

If that was the case then why didnt it rip through Thailand before when Wuhan people were visiting until mid March, almost 4 months after the first case in Wuhan.

The virus is burning out. UK numbers are going up but deaths and hospitalization are down. Sweden didnt have a lockdown and they are through it. Wear a mask, wash your hands and dont get too close to people. Its not the black death. There was a TB outbreak in 2015 and 1.5 million people died. Anybody remember that? No cause it wasnt rammed down your throat everyday. TB is highly contagious and yet almost nobody knows about this outbreak in 2015.

What outbreak? That is just the normal figure for deaths by TB. in 2000 it was well over 1.5, and the figure has been decreasing each year since then. See chart....

The ATA only has to look at the Covid numbers in the USA and Europe to

understand the SEVERITY of the problem.

Once Covid is out of the bag here, forget about putting it back in.

@mberbae was you not at school the day they done maths?

Just feasible with a 15min covid test....100% on arrival......if not the virus will rip through Thailand and it will be where the UK was in March.

Unfortunately now the UK is where the UK was in March vis-a-vis cases but nowhere near as many hospital admissions or deaths.

These tourists are coming here to spend money. If they need to do insane paperworks and go to through ridiculous requirements (like wrist bands, gps track, implant chips, etc.) before and after they get here. Probably there will be no more tourists here.
