I hope they will find someone competent and less greedy for that job for the future.

But at least he IS TRYING to open the gates by reducing the ridiculous and crippling regulations !  The person you should be criticizing is much MUCH higher up the chain of command !

That's the point.    They don't want foreigners here at the moment and I wholeheartedly agree with them.

  • good old  thai businessman, let tourists spread the virus so I can make money, screw the people, my bank account is more important

You must be living in a different universe as me, because what I read is that in most countries infections are increasing at the moment

In the words of Public Enemy.........Don’t believe the hype!!

Why don't we start slowly, say open some of the borders first? I still think if we open with a large amount of people first  that  maybe a bridge too far. Open up slowly, a amount you can control without killing all us old folk off. Remember Thailand has not seen covid 19 like other countries.

Being stuck outside , It would be great to get back to my family,

BUT,

In the typical way thailand thinks, they seem to be completely ignoring the facts they need planes to get them there, and with no planning way in advance, the airlines will not start operating without guarantees of at least filling the planes with more than 10% passengers

I was told this afternoon by an Ozzie normally resident in Thailand but hasn't been able to return to LOS that Thai has been advising callers here in Australia that they will start two way flights Bkk - Sydney - Bkk, half the total number of daily flights, half the total seats occupied, on 2 Dec 2020.

Surely, if it were "wholeheartedly" then you would leave?

Oh , come on , you still can get this ... just forget about the Ferrari ...

There are really old and affordable ones - and good deals on used cars too.

Wow , that for your 100th post ... no comment ... You should grant the right of having a different opinion than yours to the other poster without becoming too insulting ...

What about those on extension of stay ( retirement ) who are waiting to be allowed back in it is they who spend in the Thai economy 24/7 not just 14 days per year like tourists. ☹️☹️☹️☹️

It is inevitable that this will happen.

The fantastic job Thailand has done, and the fear it has driven into the population is going to make it very challenging to open the no quarantine floodgates, but it will happen.

Just look at that Egyptian soldier fiasco...and that was 1 case. When 100 cases start showing up every day, will be the real test. Shut her down, or earn to live with it?

Anyway, Trump and his wife have it...so there is always that...

"Shut her down, or earn to live with it?"

Deliberate typo?

Just feasible with a 15min covid test....100% on arrival......if not the virus will rip through Thailand and it will be where the UK was in March.

If that was the case then why didnt it rip through Thailand before when Wuhan people were visiting until mid March, almost 4 months after the first case in Wuhan.

The virus is burning out. UK numbers are going up but deaths and hospitalization are down. Sweden didnt have a lockdown and they are through it. Wear a mask, wash your hands and dont get too close to people. Its not the black death. There was a TB outbreak in 2015 and 1.5 million people died. Anybody remember that? No cause it wasnt rammed down your throat everyday. TB is highly contagious and yet almost nobody knows about this outbreak in 2015.

So say 100,000 a month (not that he did lol) amounting to 1.2 million a year which equates to just 3% of tourism arrivals in 2019

Can they not see through their rose tinted googles its a drop in the Andaman sea

They need to make that 1 million arrivals a month to revive the tourism sectors

I agree with his proposal though not the track and trace. I sincerely hope quarantines will be scrapped by December.

Not in favor of blanket opening and elimination of quarantine.  Everyday TV articles relate new cases of Covid found in persons in quarantine.  Just think if all of these cases had NOT quarantined and how many would/could be/have been infected by them.

No one can force tourists to come here. Open the floodgates and they'll come, but this will depend on the state of the economy back home, restrictions faced upon returning home and their personal financial situation.

Yes numbers are going up because  the number of tests is going up...the more you test the more you find, there is also the possibility of false positives.

Here we see the second wave.

Welcome back the next lock-down.. when the infection spreads to the locals again, then into every workplace and family home.

What outbreak? That is just the normal figure for deaths by TB. in 2000 it was well over 1.5, and the figure has been decreasing each year since then. See chart....

Positive test does NOT equal infectuous spreader.

The media did a Grand Job of implying that connection and people accepted it without further thinking.  On top of that (I keep repeating myself):

- The test are highly inaccurate > the former Chief Scientist of Pfizer has publicly stated that more than half - and possibly as good as ALL - positive tests are false.  Let that sink in...

- A positive test does not distinguish between a person that was infected weeks/months ago and recovered (often without not even knowing that he had been infected) and someone that is infectuous for other persons > obviously the ratio infected and recovered versus infectuous is very high (i.o.w. no risk whatsoever).

The ATA only has to look at the Covid numbers in the USA and Europe to

understand the SEVERITY of the problem.

Once Covid is out of the bag here, forget about putting it back in.

who is this bloke?never heard from him before has he been asleep for 6 months!  he says foreign tourists but when you read it he just talks about the chinese tourists. unbelievable

2014 TB Burden

An estimated 9.6 million people fell ill with TB in 2014: 5.4 million among men, 3.2 million among women and 1.0 million among children. 1.5 million people died from TB in 2014 – over 4,100 deaths every day. TB is now the leading infectious cause of death worldwide.

Sorry 2014. Typo.

Something about the Thai numbers is making me think they aren’t true . My wife was at one of the major government hospitals in Khon Kaen yesterday as her father is very ill . She sent me a couple of pics and said the hospital was rammed full of people. Her father who has diabetes type symptoms , liver and kidney problems and whose heart stopped on the way to the hospital cant even get a place in a ward . He is on a bed similar to others who are there sick and they are all in the corridors as there is no space for them. Never having been in one of the government hospitals I don’t know if this is normal or are there suddenly a lot of sick people in the country ? She couldn’t believe how packed the whole hospital was everywhere she went .

A simple plan. A non antigen test 72 hours before the flight. And Thailand ups their game, and invests in some modern technology, and provides on the spot antigen testing at Suvarnabhumi or elsewhere. It is easy. You pass two different tests, using two different methodologies, and you are covid free.

Welcome. No health insurance required. No groveling at a consulate. No quarantine. Welcome to Thailand. Have a great trip. And thanks so much for bringing a bundle of cash. Our people really need it.

No panic. No fear mongering. Double testing. You are safe. We are safe. Life is good.

Unfortunately now the UK is where the UK was in March vis-a-vis cases but nowhere near as many hospital admissions or deaths.

These tourists are coming here to spend money. If they need to do insane paperworks and go to through ridiculous requirements (like wrist bands, gps track, implant chips, etc.) before and after they get here. Probably there will be no more tourists here.
