Stop quarantine for foreign tourists in December, demands ATTA chief - wants Thailand open to 100,000

The chief of Thailand's Association of Thai Travel Agents or ATTA has told Thai Rath that he wants the government to scrap quarantine for tourists come December.

He feels that the implementation of other safeguards could mean a return to mass tourism without quarantine.

Wichit Prakopkoson said that there were 100,000 tourists wanting to come to the kingdom per month but few are going to come under the present onerous plans.

He was particularly referring to short stay tourists coming from mainland China and Taiwan.

They could bring in 5 billion baht (a month) he said.

He said that there were many low-risk countries where coronavirus had been brought under control for at least 60 days like China and Taiwan and the end of the year and until Chinese New Year was the time to get them back.

Clearly referring to plans announced last month for the STV (special tourist visa) Wichit said that no tourist was going to bother with that level of caution and paperwork.

The STV approach has been widely ridiculed online though the Thai authorities have stressed it is just a testing of the water, notes Thaivisa.

Wichit said: "We are pressing the government for no quarantine in December when we expect 100,000 foreigners to want to come for 5-7 days and spend 5 billion baht".

He felt that by keeping the tourists in groups, allowing them in selected areas only and making sure there were good tracing and testing methods the visit of foreigners without the need for quarantine is possible.

That's the point.    They don't want foreigners here at the moment and I wholeheartedly agree with them.

No quarantine, spend 50,000 baht per head over 5-7 days, spread the disease, sounds like a great idea, open the flood gates, they have to eventually.

I hope they will find someone competent and less greedy for that job for the future.

No tourists would go through this, only expats who are not eligible for CoE, in any of the current groups.

Just feasible with a 15min covid test....100% on arrival......if not the virus will rip through Thailand and it will be where the UK was in March.

And the gates of hades to reward China will be fully opened and then closed again after the Chinese bring the virus back in again. Seems to be too much wanting to snuggle up with the commie government and looking the other way that they created the virus.

Now for Taiwan the honest independent non commie country, I am all for letting these good people with a good government in. .

Does he read newspapers? Virtually every country even New Zealand which had an extremely good record of no infections for over 100 days had an outbreak of cases after being virus free for 100 days. The ridiculous paperwork that needs to be done before getting on a plane could be simplified and the period of quarantine counted from the first covid19 test taken abroad. However all arrivals should be tested and not allowed out of their hotels until 14 days after their first test. They should also be tested 7 days after arrival. If they are symptom free 14 days after their first test taken in their home country then they could safely leave their hotels.

However this is Thailand and such a simple solution wouldn't work as a tip of around 200 baht would probably suffice for a pass to get out of the hotel before the safe period expired.

Don't forget, you can only go to a few select places. I wonder how much it would cost to get your business on that list?

If this actually happened, could you imagine how quickly attacks, possibly fatal attacks, would start against any foreigners from frightened population?

I can imagine no attacks let alone fatal ones. You sound more frightened than those you accuse of being frightened.

It is inevitable that this will happen.

The fantastic job Thailand has done, and the fear it has driven into the population is going to make it very challenging to open the no quarantine floodgates, but it will happen.

Just look at that Egyptian soldier fiasco...and that was 1 case. When 100 cases start showing up every day, will be the real test. Shut her down, or earn to live with it?

Anyway, Trump and his wife have it...so there is always that...

ATTA is more sensible than the government. Which genuine tourists want to be quarantined for 14 days in Thailand and also with all those other requirements?

Those STV aren't really tourists but actually people with Thai wives or long-term stayers like retirees who don't mind 14 days quarantine.

Finally, someone with touch to reality and who has common sense.

On the other hand, I think his demands will not be heard from the ruling class because they are still good, with or without tourism industry.

What a surprise that nobody is coming who would have thought that.

Covid is over in most countries.

What is NOT over is the fear and paranoia that has been created for this so-called Killer Virus.

But in spite of all the fear-mongering, facts & data and the trends they show demonstrate that in most countries covid is well over and done with.  And it are just the media bombarding everyone with Covid News that keep the illusion alive that strict measures are necessary to 'protect' us.

The fear spirit has been out of the bottle and fed for so long now that it has become virtually impossible to get him back where he belongs: in fairy-scary land.

Luckily there is an ever-growing group of medical professionals that are reacting against this psychosis and plead a return to reason and normality.

For info - the former chief scientist of Pfizer made it absolutely clear that there is no such thing as a Second Wave and that the pandemic is over > https://hubpages.com/politics/Pfizer-Chief-Science-Officer-Second-Wave-Based-on-Fake-Data-of-False-Positives-for-New-Cases-Pandemic-is-Over

And how will all of that effect arrival in Thailand of foreigners who have families etc., here? Will they still have to do 14 d quarantine etc?
