The health insurance requirement under the Special Tourist Visa is only B40,000 coverage for outpatient treatment and B400,000 in case of inpatient treatment.

PHUKET:-- The health insurance requirement for tourists entering Thailand under the new Special Tourist Visa has fallen to a minimum of B40,000 coverage for outpatient treatment and not less than B400,000 in case of inpatient treatment.

Under previous requirements for people to enter Thailand under the COVID-19 restrictions, foreigners entering the country had to have a minimum of US$100,000 health insurance coverage.

The new health insurance requirements were confirmed with the Special Tourist Visa becoming official with the conditions of the new visa being published in the Government Gazette on Wednesday (Sept 30).

Surely, this can't have anything to do with the Covid19 coverage, as outpatient treatment is completely irrelevant.

Wait, isn't that the amounted needed to obtain your O-A Visa, and then extension after October 31st of last year.  Maybe I am confused again like always.  I think I better go to bed now and sleep on it.  Maybe things will look different in the morning, and the amounts wanted will evaporate.....it is all just a dream, Auntie Em, Toto, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow where are you.......

New rules seem to last no more than a few days before they change again..

Not sure how this is helping at all, the point is to not needing to have outpatient at all. When including outpatient, the amount will be much higher as well the monthly fee. Any cheap insurance would usually cover 500K USD at least inpatient.

In my case the fee would double up, just for that 40K baht requirement. I could actually save that in a year on premiums.

I have international health insurance, impatient only, up to 1.275.000 EUR.

On purpose I did not include outpatient which would be much more expensive.

I guess I do not qualify and I am too poor for the visa.

Same story here, it would make my monthly fee more than double for no reason. That are like 200 beers a month in Cambodia for free.

I have this insurance for everything big. It also covers day patient stuff, cancer etc.

It would be nice if we could prove funds on a Thai bank account for the 40k outpatient limit but I think we know thats not going to happen.

Seems I have to either forge my documents or wait until they wave it.

Yeah no clue, I got my yearly visa anyway but if this would become mandatory just to fly in and out I will certainly not be happy about it. It really starts to add up to pay another 100-150 euro for just a 40K baht prove on outpatient monthly aside of visa costs already.

Hoooooldddd.... they'll  backpedal on all requirements if nobody comes. So don't, wait for it.

Be aware that this is still written in Thai language and in Thai numbers. For me this looks like a case of traditional Thai dual pricing.

Wait till they show an official English translation, and then lets see if this is also about 400,000 Baht or maybe still about 100,000 US$, together with a mandatory list of Thai insurance companies and with a nice overpriced special farang premium.

You know, maybe the 400,000 Baht is only for Thais living abroad and coming home for a holiday, whereas we farang need to by scammed to "move the country forward".

when the new visa was announced, we needed the 40/400 policy IN ADDITION TO the $100k covid19 cover.  UJ has been providing links to two sites for those who need to purchase two policies to apply for the visa.

I guess this in addition to the COVID insurance which is something very different.

Maybe next summer, that's me being optimistic, this could drag on for another year...

What this has to do with the Thais outside Thailand?
Thais don't need a STV visa for coming back to Thailand.

Everyone keeps saying this but the TAT has not chartered any planes to bring the Chinese. The inbound tourists are from Europe, via Air Emirates.

You both need to get on track. This is not about repatriation flights and folks coming home to there families here. It is about the new tourism scheme and the Chinese will be arriving starting the 8th on flights for tourism.

40k outpatients?

I wonder how many brown envelopes that cost the Thai insurance industry to get thrown in?

They're never gonna get mass tourism back with that clause ramping up the insurance cost...

These are my Tropical Safety Boots for everyday wear when I am in countries like Thailand and Cambodia and other Tropical or sub-Tropical regions. Even for everyday wear in south Canada’s hot Summer months.

This was a respond to "Flying Saucage" who told, that this will be dual pricing and only for Thais, nothing more. I not even had something about repatriation flights... I only marked that Thais not need this kind of Visa which he refered too!
