Two senior engineers, working for Thailand’s Energy Business Department, have been arrested at their office by anti-corruption officials for allegedly demanding bribes from an oil business related company, to facilitate the processing of paperwork.

The two engineers were identified as Mr. Chakchai Tangpratchayakul and Mr. Thapanapong Pasonpat, both specialists attached to the Oil Business Safety Division of the Energy Business Department.

The sting operation was jointly conducted by officials from the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission’s Office and anti-corruption police, after they received a complaint from a private company alleging that one of the engineers, Mr. Thapanapong, had demanded a 20,000 baht bribe to facilitate paperwork concerning oil storage.

Steven, even a small amount like that is still corruption, start small then next time BIGGER.

Plus bigger also means the tentacles are spreading and more and more people getting entangled and in plenty of cases people become unwittingly trapped in corruption, also meaning, it's becoming more and more difficult to stop.

They didn't see that one coming...

about another million similar cases to go and Thailand could be on the road to recovery from corruption.

Just Tadpoles in a sea of sharks; normal 'buisness' practice here by any State employee.  If you want a Yellow Book you pay even though it's supposed to be free; same with Marriage Registration, proof of address etc etc, they will squeeze everyone they can for the last Baht !
