Some good points. Totally agree the nation is moving backwards, under the fuedal army system.

And totally agree if they want rich tourists, the administration needs to make major sacrifices. Lowering VAT on luxury items to 22%, from 100% or more would be a good place to start. Rich people like to shop for luxury items. Then you lower the duty on wine from 365% to 90%. Rich people like to consume fine wine while on vacation. And they are not dumb, like the army men. So, they will NOT spend 18,000 baht on a bottle they can get at home for $125.

Note to Prayuth and Pipat. You keep droning on and on about wealthy tourists. What are you willing to do, to demonstrate your sincerity? What will you sacrifice? Nothing? We thought as much.

Yeah, remove the duty on my HP Brown sauce

Does this sound like a place one would want to go as a tourist?

North Korea sounds like a better alternative

It won't be too hard for them to get people back. Work with Hollywood for a remake of The Beach or hire a reputable and quality foreign marketing company.

The problem here is that they want their cake and then they want to eat it too. Then they want your cake to eat that as well. After that they want the Chinese to make them a new cake, the Japanese to supply the ingrediants for that cake, the Americans and Brits to pay for it, then the Italians to package and deliver it.

They could have the backpackers and everyone else back in a few months but someone put a stupid idea in their head that they should target only wealthy people. The problem is that wealthy people don't go to third world banana republics. Wealthy people go to the Caymans or Majorca or even the Greek islands. All placed designed exclusevely for wealthy tourists.

They could get the wealthy people, but that would require a complete revamp of their entire culture. And there is where the problem happens. They want the wealthy people and the qualtiy tourists, but they want to keep the corruption and feudal system that is in place. Thus, they want the cake and they want to eat it, but they don't want to buy the cake and they don't want to make themselves.

I'm moving back to America next month and honestly it feels like a giant weight has been removed. After six months of not having to deal with immigration, going to Changwattena last week cemented my decision. This place is going to get worse before it ever gets better. If it ever does get better.

And BTW, I've been through the Greek Isles and if you think they were designed for the wealthy you must of been raised in poverty..

In demographics, the world population is the total number of humans currently living, and was estimated to have reached 7,800,000,000 people as of March 2020.

It took over 2 million years of human history for the world's population to reach 1 billion,

and only 200 years more to reach 7 billion.

- On the actual Covid-19 -

Population Worldwide

#7,800,000,000

Deaths from Covid-19

#1,050,000

= 0.00013   !!!

...ok, lets take out/ask people with pre-existing medical conditions, the elderly and young children out of the equation/ask them to “shelter in place”

- the death rate is now even more,  a super ridiculously low percentage!

*So, you ruin the worldwide economy based on alterer motives of

- govt nations / politician’s

- private businesses in the medical, pharmaceutical, certain tech companies, medical experts who benefit in some way,

- Anybody else who profits/benefits lock-down procedures, including News Media Organizations

My own thought/comments:

I will keep this brief, although I could go on for 20 pages.

- I don’t have any issues wearing a mask when out in public, I’ll do my part!

- IMHO, I feel it makes more sense to shelter in place people with already weakened immune systems/pre-existing medical conditions, the elderly, young children and anyone else who just plainly wants to shelter in place, while allowing the rest of us to go on with our lives.

*I am a statistician by trade.  I deal in numbers/statistics/actual facts.  Everything I’ve seen so far, now after 6 months shows me that outside a very small # of people who should/could shelter in place, the rest of us should be allowed to go back to our everyday lives (still willing to wear a mask ????  )

The worldwide economic harm + increased suicide rate etc, has been far more damaging than the virus itself IMHO

Scientists were able to turn an enormous disaster into a smaller disaster, going in against politicians and public opinion.

And you blame them for that?

You are a statistician?

Never heard of cause and effect?

In Farangland they put traffic lights to reduce deaths at cross roads, and police make sure drivers obey.

Now there are hardly any deaths at cross roads.

Your conclusion: traffic lights are a waste of money.

What are you going on about? I just said that more quality focus rather than just quantity focus in Thai tourism would be a more sustainable model, since mass tourism has ruined many parts of Thailand (see the parts that have been sealed off to the public due to destruction of entire areas of the sea, for instance, with Maya Bay being most talked about). What's that got to do with COVID deaths and World population growth? COVID may have simply been an opportunity to rethink what Thailand was doing and find a better way forward.

How do airlines plan their schedules?

They can't sell any tickets if they are not sure if they will be allowed to fly and even if they get green light, who is ready to sit on an airplane the following day. First you need all paperwork re Covid test etc.

That's why the smart/responsible airlines such as Qantas have flagged they will not be flying International to at least July 2021..If TAT want to take the risk and open the gates to China..Good Luck to them(they'll need it)....Oooh and another thing 'Travel Insurance'..Ex-pats and Business exemptions I'm afraid only!

Raised in poverty ????

In all honesty if you fly with BBA ( Baked Beans Airlines ) and spend your time in the company of two weeks holiday bricklayers and adenoidal typists with white flabby legs and a case of the runs it might be a bit rough. If you want you can find some excellent hotels with real 5☆ ratings and 1 or 2 real chefs with their own ☆s.

Depends what you want or expect.

Minimally. Not even close to what it was in this past winter. As long as the elderly are protected it won't get anywhere close to that point because immunity to covid 19 is real. Some will die. It's sad, but it's ok because we are human and we are mortal. 150,000 die everyday from a plethora of causes. Covid 19 is just another one, and with these low ifrs (.1-.3), there is no reason to shut down the world to the degree that is currently being done. Take sensible precautions and reopen. We must not allow this hysteria and fear to dominate us.

QUOTE: Not even close to what it was in this past winter.

True!

And the flu is not even close to what it was in 1918. No need for flu vaccin.

Maybe they have read the small print and now realised what a fun time in quarantine actually means, "no fun at all"

They are not interested whether you have fun or not, All they want is to strip everybody of as much money as possible whilst they have you completely contained in a cell of their making.

And why is that? It is thanks to "draconian" measures. Let's keep them up.

Oh. Is there immunity against flu, tuberculosis, aids, etc?

QUOTE: We must not allow this hysteria and fear to dominate us.

There is no reason to let anything dominate us. But there is reason for reasonable fear and action.

No, not because of lockdowns because people have been developing immunity. Many studies show this if you are willing to see this. In addition, many have immunity to covid 19 though t-cell and b-cell memory immunity and cross coronavirus immunity and fought off the disease without developing antibodies. The evidence is out there if you open your eyes.

There is immunity to flu that's why flu epidemics follow a viral curve. This disease is not the same as tuberculosis or aids and certainly nothing close to the 1918 flu pandemic. As I said, it is important to take sensible precautions. Unfortunately the ones you seem to advocate are not that.

What kind of old hippy are you? You seem like a very afraid establishment hippy now.

Most people don't need the flu vaccine. Only the elderly do, but unfortunately it is not so effective for them.

Not all old hippies are on dope or suffer brain damage.

And after 50 years of anarchism, I still feel every day more anti establishment.

So if there is immunity to flu, why do we still have the flu? Why do virologists each year have to make a cocktail of 3 or 4 different flu vaccins, hoping that the correct one is amongst them?

immunity builds up during the epidemic as people develop it. Not all people maintain their immunity. Elderly people have many problems with diminishing immune systems as they age. Why doesn't everyone get the flu every year? Immunity. In addition, the flu virus does mutate every year; hence, it doesn't disappear. People with stronger immunity and immune systems can fight it off or have milder cases.

I am glad to hear you are still anti-establishment. There are credible alternative voices amongst the health care community who are expressing alternative viewpoints to what we are being pounded with everyday in the media. I recommend that you give them a listen or read.

Coronavirus are much more stable than flu viruses, so immunity from T-cell and B-cell memory should be better/higher. From the ifrs I have been seeing, of .1-.3% (max .6), this is deadlier than many flus, but not that deadly. If the mortality range for the Asian and Hong Kong flus the WHO gives at 1-4 million global deaths is correct, this may be on a par with them, but could also be worse. It will not be anything close to the Spanish flu.

There are very many credible ones. I couldn't give you a number off hand. You will find very few of these given center stage in the mainstream corporate news. That doesn't make them less credible.

The corporate media needs to be supplemented or any view point we get will be skewed. There is some truth in both left and right PC media, but it needs to sifted and definitely must be supplemented.

Have a good one : )

Flu viruses are a natural virus. Covid 19 ( so called ) has been, in my opinion, to use layman's terms, mucked  about with.

PS.

Flu viruses are corona viruses.

One can post all the depressing photos you want. I can post photos of shopping centers today, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Central Wold, Central Plaza numerous others ...teaming with people. All Thai Nationals for the most part; out and about going to work, shopping and spending money. The tourist towns that placed all of their  eggs in the international Chinese market are hurting biggley, greed got the better of them. Here in Bangkok; its business as usual. Nobody misses you .
