Senator’s black Mercedes parked in hospital’s ER zone creates furore in social media

A senator’s car, which was parked in a prohibited zone and blocked other people’s access to the area on Thursday morning, has won a lot of backlash on social media.

Photographs of a black Mercedes Benz parked near the entrance of Ramathibodi Hospital’s emergency ward posted on Twitter by "TransportTH" have gone viral and had been retweeted nearly 30,000 times as of press time.

The driver was reportedly scolding the photographer for taking a picture of the licence plate, which revealed that the car belonged to a senator.

The #WhyDoWeNeedSenators? was the top-trending hashtag on Thursday, with many netizens saying senators were an unnecessary part of Parliament.

The opposition and pro-democracy activists have been fighting to “switch off” the power of senators selected by the junta regime.

The opposition has submitted motions to amend the charter in order to make this possible, but the motions have yet to be added to the House agenda.

The better question is why was he there in the first place.  Was it time for a collection to be made in light of using the hospital as a possible Covid testing center. Or, was he visiting a Mia Noi.

Ultimately yes...  the sense of entitlement is present through every facet of Thai society and grows with wealth, with which comes power and a greater sense of entitlement...   and its not just Thailand.

What does a country need senators for. It's for countries stuck in the past.

Nothing new here. Just another self-entitled <deleted> in a country full of self-entitled <deleted> who think the rules are for everybody else but themselves.

But as long as the incident enrages "netizens", I guess that's a good thing.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he files a defamation case against the photograher

He's important, he's entitled because of his status (his perception of his status).

I think the idea of having senators has some merit...unless of course they were installed by a puppet government who did not consider the citizens may want choice in who represents the Bangkok elite.

First I give you a BJ

Than we go for a 69

Later, to relax, we go to KFC

And they represent states rather than people!  The US would be better off with just the House of Representatives, which actually represent people.

Pretty cheap Charlie and crappy Merc for a senator. Was expecting at least an S300.

I would never have guessed what the original poster was meaning. Thanks for the explanation.

Possibly a governmental perk and given to him for his position to drive around.

As good an example of "hypophora" as I will read today

Evidently he was not the only one parked in a zone, that should be used by ambulances only.

BUT.... of course the Mercedes gets singled out, because of jealousy and envy of the peasants
