Social Security Health stopped

Featured Replies

At hospital today, they charged me for my medication the full price and said  the SS don't pay foreigners any more.

They did say to take the receipt to the SS office to ask for a rebate.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Government hospital charges me 1bht/pill, not that expensive IMHO.

(the pills are 4-5bht/pill in my local pharmacy)

I thought you had Thai citizenship?

I won't get my ID for another month or two.

Not at all true and contrary to the Social Security Act whuch makes no distinctions based on nationality.

To be clear - are you enrolled in SS through employment, or continuing to pay into it post employment?

Post employment. I thought the same; they often just say foreigners can't get it if they can't be bothered to check something.

Yeah, it's cheap but the money is not really the issue here.

@Neeranam Are you continuing to pay monthly to the Social Fund?

Yes, I quit my job 1 year ago and pay 432 baht a month. Gets taken out my bank automatically.

I'm actually going to see them anyway when I become a Thai citizen soon.

Once a Thai citizen you will qualify for the 30 baht scheme, however there are advnatages to keeping under SS instead. (Can't be enrolled in both)

I am thinking of which one to choose. What, in your opinion, are the benefits of keeping the SS?
