Thai Airways fried donuts prove popular in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI (NNT) - After proving popular in Bangkok, THAI Catering has begun selling its fried donuts in Chiang Mai, attracting long lines of customers.

THAI Catering staff said today they found it difficult to keep up with the demand in Chiang Mai as customers had begun lining up early in the morning to try the popular snack from the culinary arm of Thai Airways.

The entire operation was moved from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to offer the fried donuts, with cooking pans and staff all brought up from the capital to Suthep Road across from the province’s Public Health Office. Selling from 6am, staff had three pans going with batches of donuts frying for five minutes a time. Waiting times were still no less than 20 minutes due to demand as many people bought 3-5 bags or even 10 bags to give out to their friends and family.

Selling for 40 baht a bag, three pairs of donuts along with a condensed milk sauce are provided in each order. The operation has reported selling as many as 1,000 orders a day, and staff have urged buyers to arrive even earlier in the day, to avoid a long wait.

Meanwhile serious events of national interest are relegated to the Bangkok forum.

Has to be most ironic joke of the century that theses are the remnants of one a glorious wold class airline and the pride of the nation, now excelling in selling Pat tang o....

Fiddling while Rome burns comes to mind.

Sounds only like a cheap cheap bargain deal, and fact is CM folk will always line up for anything like that as word travels quick up here. Not so long ago at the oldest Mall in CM, a movie theatre was selling really really really cheap popcorn (all flavors) to entice people to come to see movies there. This was basically after their beautiful remodeling to stir up awareness. Bummer thing is me and the family went to see a movie but could not get any snacks from them as the line was huge long and ridiculous. All people coming off the street and none seeing any movie. We consequently had to go down to the Supermarket to get a drink and snack to carry in to see the movie. So, if Thai Airways puts the price up to where all donuts are at, the fact probably is they wouldn't sell hardly any .

Abysmal failure.

When a major airline shifts its focus to selling baked goods you know the end is near.

  • Popular Post

Is this a joke? An airline selling doughnuts...

Guess nothing else newsworthy is happening in the country

Maybe Thai airways could open up restaurants in their planes, while they are grounded.

Then people could afford to eat at first class ????????

Looks like the traditional and simple Norwegian donuts, with or without glaze... that are sold for 3 baht in donut vendors. Actually these look a lot fluffier (filled with air to save cost), which makes them more similar to the traditional pastries literally called "the poorman's pastries" (fattigmann).

They're getting ripped off if they pay 40baht for 3 plain donuts when they should get 10-15 for that price.

Anyway, now back to actual news...

Yes I know what you were getting at, I am not a befuddled retiree. ????

I felt the dinosaur amusement park worth a mention seeing as you mentioned dinosaurs and it was a very diverse and odd business to locate in the middle of Sukhumvit in downtown Bangkok. As thai Airways serving patongo in Chiang Mai is an oddity.

The Dinosaur park also had maintenance issues with a fire on one of the rides, hope there's no similarities there.

Should flog off the aircraft, hire more chefs, extend the kitchens and get rid of 90% of the management... might actually make a profit out of the new business model.

The hole & jam remains with the airline.

Already exists at a prestigious location in Bangkok, but I won't name it as I'll probably get silenced again.

The country is falling apart, the national carrier has been looted over decades and nobody was ever taken to accounts and the only noteworthy news is that the latter now is doing a doughnut run in Chiang Mai.

Are you kidding or everyone on seriously good weed ........

Anyhow, 40 Baht per bag, 1'000 bags a day, the total debt somewhere around 320 billion Thai Baht - how many centuries will it take to doughnut Thai Airways out of the doldrums?

There is but it cant be reported.

Coming soon: THAI-branded somtam stands and pad-THAI.

How about giving them away to the needy?

A Lady in our Village sells these Fried Chinese Doughtnuts

They are always warm, delicious, and 10 Baht for about 10 of them.

Fair competition to Thai
