Video: Trucker tries to use "bottle of water" to put out fire - fails as blaze engulfs diesel tanks

Rescue and fire services were called to the Kanchanaphisek ring road at 1 am last night as fire engulfed a 22 wheel truck trailer carrying frozen seafood. 

 

The incident happened about 200 meters from the Bang Muang toll booth on the way to Bang Na. 

 

The fire took hold and was fueled by two diesel tanks that both exploded. 

 

Driver Atchariya, 46, said he was taking his load from Mahachai to Bang Bo and had got onto the ring road at Rama 2 heading for Bang Na. He had been going between 60 and 80 kmph.

Out of the corner of his wing mirror he saw fire emanating from below the trailer and pulled over to investigate. He used a bottle of water to try and extinguish the growing blaze but he didn't have enough water. 

 

There was no mention of there being a fire extinguisher onboard the truck in the 77kaoded story.

 

Atchariya said the fire spread rapidly before engulfing the diesel tanks causing an explosion. 

 

An investigation is underway as to what might have caused the fire.

I guess it thawed out!

Can’t imagine a commercial big rig doesn’t have a small portable fire extinguisher unless of course one lives in SE Asia...

The best thing to do when a fire breaks out in a diesel truck is to run away. A small extinguisher ain't gonna do squat. Even a big one when the fire really takes hold would be useless.
